David Unsworth - Temporary Manager

Would any other premier league club want Unsworth to be their first team manager?

I don't believe they would.
I don't want a sentimental appointment, I want the best man for the job. In my opinion Unsworth isn't. He needs to go elsewhere and learn his trade, winning u23's is not enough to give him the job of bringing Everton back to life.

But then again, he doesn't love anyone else's club does he?

Why and how prejudge his ability until he's had a run? If he fails over the next 3 games (i.e. we're still in the bottom 3, win-less against Leicester and/or Watford and shown-up in France, then fair enough. If that doesn't happen, then the board have some serious thinking to do. Obviously we need to have the 'long' term manager in place for the Jan window, but until then it needs to play out. Who knows, Rhino may surprise us. I for one, hope he does.

We all know the past doesn't dictate the future but there's a lot to be said for someone who 'gets' and loves the club.

I love Everton. I'd relegate us.

Craig Shakespeare won his first 6 and has now been sacked.

Tim Sherwood has/had the highest win % for any Spurs manager in PL history. It matters not.

Alan Stubbs did very well with our under 21/23's. Hibs poached him and the Neil Warnock showed him up.

How did Stubbs do when he was care-taking at Goodison?

My post didn't say Unsworth should get the job did it? Unlike your original one, I'm not prejudging him. Stubbs (nor you - as far as I know), didn't have a 3 or 4 game 'trial' as caretaker manager to show if there was any promise. That's all I'm advocating. While we sift through other potential full-time managers. Unless of course, Rhino proves it impossible not to appoint him.

is this in reference to the game V an already relegated and already on the Beach Norwich, with a squad full of players made up Martinez had been sacked?

Pep and zidane never managed anyone else before they were given chances by the club's they loved .... totally different levels I know , but it could work for us

They've got other experiences in top leagues.

Would you think it acceptable to appoint Man Utd's U-23 manager, for example?

The point you made was that Everton isn't a place for managers with no PL experience. I was simply pointing out that pretty much every other club has done so.

Anyone who comes in is a risk, whenever it happens. We can speculate all day about who we might want and why. The only people who have said they want the job are Unsworth, Giggs and Neville. Unsworth is in charge now, so it gives an opportunity to see what he can do.

Who is appointed will perhaps give an indication of how the club aims to develop.
Are we looking to develop young players and integrate them into the team or are we aiming to buy our way into competing with the champions league clubs? Are we really ambitious or just treading water while the stadium development unfolds?

He talks well. Fans love that. He gets Everton. This is very important to evertonians. But. He needs to bring wins. Talk will be futile if we wont be winning games. Thats the bottom line. I really hope we win tomorrow. That could start a wonderful era. We tried high price high profile manager that was as toxic as deepest part of hell. Right fit is what we need now. Unsworth clearly is right fit but can be hack it? We will see soon. Cmoon Rhino!

What a mental sentence.
Not really

I don't want Rhino in charge long term, he hasn't got the credentials to manage in the Premier League yet.

But whilst we look for a new manager, give Rhino a chance and see what he can achieve.

I would love Rhino to guide us to a winning run in the next month and to get the job. I don't buy into this idea that you've got to jet in some big name with CL experience to buy glory. How do you think clubs got by before the Premier League era ? They built from the roots. And you know what, that's not a bad model for success. Unsworth's not just our man, he's a good fit, as you say. He comes with a good record of developing young players and building a winning team. He gets us, he communicates well with the fans. And early signs are that the players respond to him well too. The mood around the club is already changing, and that's got to be a positive thing.

Just watched that press conference, he wasnt as upbeat as the other day, he mentioned he had spoken to Farhad and I think hes been told he has ZERO chance of getting the job, interesting.

Not how I read him. Seemed more serious/less bubbly than initial pressers but the size and importance of the task may be fully dawning on him. Still seemed very positive and upbeat. Hope he can do it today.
