2025/26 David Moyes

Rumours of 200m. I don't know where that numbers coming from and don't think it will be that much myself but confident we will spend a significant amount.

Since January there was talk of us keeping our powder dry to go big in summer. That's been reiterated recently in Mark Douglas ipaper article - he's consistently had good info since TFG came in.
I think given the holes in the squad 200 million wouldn't be enough to recruit quality. I'm sure there are members of the forum who can do the maths but I've a feeling the new sustainability rules won't give us that much anyway.

The sense of entitlement on this site is off the scale.
We have been fighting relegation for 4 seasons, with zero investment or have people been in a coma?
The squad is thin by PL league standards and we will get a solid mid table finish with an outside chance of Europe.
That is progress.
We need another 4 or 5 quality signings to get back to get to where we belong.
And I would rather trust Moyes with the rebuild than a Potter or Rosinior.

It's our third season in a row where we have reached 48 points at least indicating that this squad is more than good enough to be in the PL.

The first half last night was simply unacceptable, so good to see the side get back into it.

We actually had the better chances throughout the game too but were undone by our usual atrocious finishing and calmness when presented with excellent chances.

Europe is still possible despite the frustrations of the last 3 games and the late goals conceded.

If he pulls Europe off with this squad which has been hampered by major losses (Branthwaite and Grealish) and a forward line of Barry or Beto he’s pulled up trees.

This is the 3rd season on the spin we've finished closer to europe than relegation.

Why must be persist with clinging on to relegation drama?

I wonder if Newcastle fans will talk about this season as being in a relegation fight. They can still go down/Theyre a lot closer to it than we've been.

He will be here next season, he’s stabilised us and with the league being so one dimensional and poor, he’s got us still (somehow!) in the conversation for a European place, which if we are being honest with ourselves you would have ripped your arm off for.

However, he will be in control of the summer spending, which is a little concerning to me, as I Still don’t understand his use of the squad and the signings we made last summer, and the lack of minutes even off the bench for some of the signings just doesn’t compute.

If we could somehow manage qualification for European football this season it will have been a great season, and all in, even without Europe, it will have been decent considering the mess we have been in for the last few years, but with some frustrating performances and results thrown in.

Finish the season strong Toffees, and let’s see where we end up.

Not only this but the two seasons before now we finished nowhere near relegation points wise. On the pitch points had us 20+ points from relegation. This season we may finish closer to the bottom 3 but also the league is much more tight in the middle so we probably won't finish as far off 7th points wise as we would have in 23/24 and 24/25. I think < 60 points gets you Europe this season whereas in 23/24 and 24/25 the team that finished 7th had 60 and 65 points respectively.

With JB out there is only Coleman or Patterson otherwise, if JOB moves to the centre.

Would either of those two have done better against Doku?

Given that JOB was getting schooled all game, I suppose you could argue it.

Patto came on and Doku scored immediately tho…

Absolute prio #1 first signing this summer must be an RB.
Moyes clearly not arsed about giving youngsters minutes and just wants to win which is why it's so weird he insists in the worst CB partnership when we've seen Rohl and garner play well at RB, and when JOB has played CB he's been arguably MOTM every time. I obvs want garner to play cm but we've actually got a lot of options there. Yeah last summer transfer window was actually awful because every priority position needed last summer is still absolutely needed a year later, LB, RB and an actual CDM.

Agree, definitely want to see JOB & JB as the first choice CB pairing next season - and ideally new full-backs on both sides (not sure if it's going to happen on the left, mind). But with Tarks as our current captain and Keggers just extended (not to mention the question of if Branthwaite can stay fit), I wonder...

Really?? He’s barely been hanging on in some of the ones I’ve watched.
Would he improve playing there regularly? Yup, almost certainly.
Is he a better option than Tarks at the moment? No.

That’s what annoys me. City’s back 4 is about their 3rd or 4th choice if they had all their players fit yet we still treat them as they are prime players.
3 internationals and a rising star. Every team in the league would take any of these. They are prime players.

First half performance was totally unnecessary and we were lucky to stay in the game.

That first half was deffo Moyes’ ‘knife to a gunfight’ negativity.

Said to my lad, the teams who have given Man City a game are those teams who have got at them, gave them no time and space on the ball. We do that in the second half and look what happens.
