Newcastle were an abomination to watch.Does anyone think its worth getting eddie howe now, as there is unrest at newcastle, still young and ambitious and a blue.
Officially nobody knew but it was pretty obvious to everyone that Ferguson (I can't stand all the "sir" bollox, the man was a football manager ffs) was going and that Moyes was going to be his chosen successor. It was a total non surprise when they officially announced it.You said that in the other thread, yet no one knew SAF was retiring.
That's where the issue is for me. Moyes definitely doesn't deserve the sack, and ordinarily i'd say the idea of changing manager after a season like this one (in context) would be ridiculous, but I am slightly wary of the contract situation. I think keeping Moyes beyond the end of next season is effectively just committing ourselves to being a fairly dull midtable team for the long term and would herald the end of any remaining hope of aiming for more than that, but having him in control of transfers and managing young players when he has no long term investment to worry about and seeing how the whole West Ham contract situation panned out with him is also a concern. I don't think TFG will move him on at this point regardless, but I can't really decide whether i'm on board with that or not.

Sign a bunch of KDH-Grealish quality players and we’ll be laughing.I think this gets at a lot of the contradictions of Moyes and how we feel about him.
The one year left on a contract thing feels a big risk to me. I think it partially undermined Dyche, and players must sense the lack of authority that comes with it.
In truth though, sacking Moyes would seem totally mad. But as you say, giving him a long term deal also feels quite off. I think of we had a season where we were say 13/14th for large parts like West Ham were and there would be a lot of frustration.
More importantly though, I am not sure he fits easily towards what the long term plan is meant to be. Which is clearly about developing young players, often selected from data, to be improved. The lack of use for Aznou, Dibling and Rohl and lack of any improvement for Barry must surely alarm people in the board. There's probably 100m of player there, who are largely going backwards. I'm not sure the circles can be squared easily.
There is a sweet spot, where basically Everton build the culture underneath the club whole more gives us stability. Recruitment gets brought into place, they make the academy one of the best, developing scouting etc. I just don't have any faith that the current board/management will do that though. I don't think they're forward thinking enough, and suspect we will just rest on our laurels at being half way up the league.
Something has to give though. You can't have a committee spending quite heavily on players that will never get picked. So they either let Moyes buy a load of KDD clones, or they have to think of alternatives.

If you said this is where we’d be at the final stages of the season this time last year, I’d have snapped your hand off.
That said, I think we’re also ahead of where we should be, based on the last few years’ troubles and the squad we have.
I would say incremental progress is key for Everton now. We’re one bad transfer window away from sending us backwards, so the decisions made on player recruitment have to be spot on for the next season or two.
That said, you have to take opportunities when they present themselves and a European place shouldn’t be given up without a fight.

The amount of big chances we missed in 23-24 was really scary. To be fair, is there a massive difference in style with Moyes, Dyche and Fat Sam?
