I hope thats a lie he doesnt watch Liverpool.
He should be watching every opponent that we play.
Their strengths , their weaknesses , their style of play , their formation , set pieces corners & free kicks.
Everything should be "watched" , so I'm putting that down as a big fat fib.

If it isnt GTF Moyst.
When he joined Everton first time around I remember one of our players saying, in his very first game he knew absolutely evrything about the opposition, how they played, the way they set up, who had what role in the opposition team, the strenghts and weaknesses of every opposition player, they said it was incredible how much he knew about the opposition.
So I'm sure he knows absolutely everything about the 💩.

It might have been Alan Stubbs saying it although I can't be 100%

Ferguson was the same. He would keep a massive file cabinet full of files on every team. Not just in the Premier League, but the lower leagues as well.

These guys are football anoraks on a whole different level!

FWIW & it isn’t intended as a dig at Moyes (so he doesn’t require defending 🙂) some of the highest paid players don’t necessarily command the highest transfer fees presumably because of the limited number of clubs able or willing to pay them combined with the players preference.

TAA & Salah will get top wages & cost nothing & Grealish will be our top earner if he signs but it looks like we are only willing to pay up to £20m for him.

According to Soccernomics, transfer spend has a surprisingly weak correlation with league position, explaining only about 16% of variation in performance, while salary expenditure is far more critical, explaining up to 92%. While high transfer fees can improve a team over time, they do not guarantee immediate success, and wages are the true driver of league success
Sums this thread up having to prefix what you want to say like that 🤣

Interestingly (to me anyway) if there is such a high correlation between the players wage bill & league position then I am now thinking that it doesn’t really matter who the manager is in terms of progressing consistently over a medium term.

It then comes down to increasing income to be able to pay more wages and then appointing a manager who can attract the players who are paid high wages

Some may do better or worse in individual seasons (eg Spurs at the moment) but over a medium term clubs positions will revert to their salary base.

This means it’s all about the money which I suppose we all know really & is rather depressing 😞
I suppose the caveat there is that players need to be worth the wages they
are paid. Otherwise you just end up with a high wage bill and an average team.

See Leeds under Ridsdale.

Great post. I saw on GOT Brighton, Bournemouth, Brentford etc described as 'hipster clubs' whose very existence it is to trade players. Made me chuckle... Cos its also accurate.

Picked up cheaply, these clubs have low debt, moneyball recruitment ( creating helpful surpluses) and therefore overhead for player outlay... consistent with their league and frequently European berths.

It will take TFG and Moyes a few seasons for our bigger stadium and revenues to show, owing to that debt.

This makes Moyes' signings NOW especially important. _At least_ two from Dibling, TG, Aznou and Rohl need start to add impact on the field early next season, or his role in recruitment needs a double look.

Harrison and JB were in the system already.

“But I’m not having him saying they are getting bad decisions at Anfield because if you ask any Premier League manager over football history, they will tell you that if there is one club that gets all the decisions it is Liverpool Football Club. If they are getting a few bad ones at the moment, well, we have had to put up with them for years. There are very few decisions that go against Liverpool at Anfield. Very few. I actually think Liverpool supporters would agree with that if they were being honest as well. But as a coach, I think he’s a top coach.”
