2025/26 David Moyes

whether we put it down to his tactical changes or not, coming back from a losing position to beat a team unbeaten in 19 is some going like, i will drink to that.
We were so much better when we started pressing high up the pitch instead of the low block in the 1st half.

In the 1st half it felt like we were trying to counter.

Yes I said nothing was paid for Beto initially, that’s why we took him on, I never suggested that he was a free transfer, I knew he was going to cost much more than he was worth like most fans knew at the time, what I was saying was Everton never had to pay a penny for him in that first season we bought him.

Well we did in summer 2024, when Dyche was here?

The team played great football in his last couple of seasons. It’s not like Bobby came in and turned a Pulis side into entertainers.
I think Martinez signing Lukaku, Delboy, McCarthy and Gareth Barry helped the team to be very entertaining in that first season Martinez was here and I think the 72 points is the highest we have ever earned in the premier league, I think it was 16 or thereabouts more than when Moyes’s team finished fourth.

You are correct Rita thank you— I should check instead of relying on memory, you might agree though that Lukaku, Delboy, McCarthy and Barry made a big difference to the team that Moyes left and the team Martinez started with?
He dropped his arse when he chased Distin out of the club. Phenomenal? Nah, a massive shyster that is a stain on this club and football in general.

Lukaku was the main improvement and he was given to the club. Fact is, stick Lukaku up top the season before and I’d be confident of Moyes getting top four.

Just think of how many draws in 2012-13 would have been wins with Lukaku. He would have loved chasing through balls from Darron Gibson.

That team played well, alright, but Martinez took them to a new level the following season for one season and one season only. Moyes is a far better manager than Martinez, but he's basically an old-school pragmatist. That's fine for what it is. There are worse things to be. But he'll never be known for entertainment, excitement, or gambling. He's Mr. Stability.

Nah, it comes down to players. It always comes down to players. I’m pretty sure no less than Howard Kendall would say the same thing. We were as well run as any club in the league at the time but just lacked the resources to secure that extra bit of talent to push us to a higher level.
