2025/26 David Moyes

I hope this feller gets asked about how tough it'll be for Palace playing away in Europe and then facing an away match days later and how that makes it easier for us.

I'd really like to see his reaction to that if any of the reporters are willing to broach the subject.

Knowing our press reporters it'll just be who is injured and thoughts on Liverpool losing a game.

So did we...
"On 17 April 1888 at the Royal Hotel, Manchester, the Football League was formally created and named.

The 12 founder members of the Football League are Accrington, Aston Villa, Blackburn Rovers, Bolton Wanderers, Burnley, Derby County, Everton, Notts County, Preston North End, Stoke (as they were known at the time), West Bromwich Albion and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Preston North End were the very first winners of the league in 1889 and today is the city that the EFL calls home."

"In 1919, the Football League controversially voted to promote The Arsenal, instead of relegated local rivals Tottenham Hotspur, into the newly enlarged First Division, despite only finishing fifth in the Second Division's last pre-war season of 1914–15."

These bleeders have had more monikers than Prince.

Yes, Everton were invited to take part...over above the claims to take part of the widely regarded better team of Bootle.

They changed their name during the George Graham era too...

  • Boring, Boring Arsenal

All that boring stored up though into an explosion of Michael Thomas proportions. They were the kings of all creation that night.
They were a bloody good side. In fact, they were as good a side in terms of defending that I've ever seen in English football. They didn't defend like Guardiola does by hogging possession. They let you have it, but still locked you out.

I remember when they played Capello's magnificent AC Milan side in the Super Cup in 1994 a friend asking me who would win. I told him Milan would hammer them...1-0.

Graham was a genuinely great manager ruined, reputationally, by that corruption scandal. He's almost been written out of their history now, but I'd have taken peak Graham over peak Wenger. Tactically, he was smarter. Mentally, he was tougher. That side was solid as a rock and could play too.

It wasn't one corruption scandal, it was the left overs of a former time when business got done in the bar instead of the office. I suppose the sacrifice to bring a new age into play. Ended up at filthy leeds and put the bedrock in place for o'leary iirc. Ironic that it was dodgy finance that then sunk them. S'pose they had 'good times' in their own right though.
Comparing to Wenger is a bit of a stretch, not least 'cos he had a stable of soon to be World cup winners to unleash on the league, and get them playing quick amazing football again built on the bedrock of Grahams defensive unit. Shame he (Wenger) had such a poor glasses prescription, having never seen anything his sides were responsible for in his life.

Dunno if I'd go as far as saying better than Wenger, Wenger brought the life into the premiership..
