They were a bloody good side. In fact, they were as good a side in terms of defending that I've ever seen in English football. They didn't defend like Guardiola does by hogging possession. They let you have it, but still locked you out.

I remember when they played Capello's magnificent AC Milan side in the Super Cup in 1994 a friend asking me who would win. I told him Milan would hammer them...1-0.

Graham was a genuinely great manager ruined, reputationally, by that corruption scandal. He's almost been written out of their history now, but I'd have taken peak Graham over peak Wenger. Tactically, he was smarter. Mentally, he was tougher. That side was solid as a rock and could play too.

It wasn't one corruption scandal, it was the left overs of a former time when business got done in the bar instead of the office. I suppose the sacrifice to bring a new age into play. Ended up at filthy leeds and put the bedrock in place for o'leary iirc. Ironic that it was dodgy finance that then sunk them. S'pose they had 'good times' in their own right though.
Comparing to Wenger is a bit of a stretch, not least 'cos he had a stable of soon to be World cup winners to unleash on the league, and get them playing quick amazing football again built on the bedrock of Grahams defensive unit. Shame he (Wenger) had such a poor glasses prescription, having never seen anything his sides were responsible for in his life.

Dunno if I'd go as far as saying better than Wenger, Wenger brought the life into the premiership..
