2025/26 David Moyes

This huge for him this game. No denying it. Better play our best and have a attacking set up.
He needs a win here. Anything less and it's been a very modest opening to the season punctuated by two bad lows: the derby no-show and the Wolves capitulation.

A win will allow him to spin the narrative that his prioritisation of the league is paying off, with us sitting in 7th. It's not a spin I'd swallow, but it'll be a successful PR point given the last half decade of this club's existence. In other words, the stability argument will win out.

A loss and we're below Leeds and Sunderland having failed to get off the bus at Anfield and thrown away League Cup progression. After the week he's just had, a loss to this feeble West Ham side will seriously undermine any confidence fans would have in Moyes to push us on. We'll be lower mid-table with Palace up next and City on the horizon...and his latest opportunity to take a knife to a gunfight.

He showed Leeds too much respect on the first night and couldn`t come up with a plan to beat a Villa team that were in poor form. The least said about mid week the better. We`ve given West `am some spankings in the past with far worse players its time to deliver another against a poor `ammers team. My only fear will be that Moyes goes into the game cautious and lets them get a foothold and we see another draw, which will be a missed opportunity for us to move up the table.

A draw won't cut it. It'll seriously undermine whatever good will remains for Moyes.

On that note, @AndyC was in magnificently truculent form on Esk's Talking the Blues podcast this week. Poor old Esk indulged in a rambling apologia for Moyes, but Andy cut through him like a knife. A great listen.

Hey I was as annoyed with the selection as you were especially Coleman playing left back but life is about making decisions and inwardly I'd imagine Moyes knows he got it wrong but has to put on a defiant act infront of the media
Managers for years have been selecting weakened sides for cup games. He knew what he was doing and for his own reasons.

For years we have craved stability rather than lurching from exciting young manager to pragmatic relegation avoider in a non-stop cycle.

Others now in those cycles (see W Ham as prime example).

Moyes is neither an exciting young manager but nor is he just a relegation avoider, he is more than that.

Give me midtable this season, next is about really expecting a hunt for euro places. Oh, and the fa cup would be nice 😃.

I take your sentiment but we were mid table for the last two seasons, and the manager has just rested so many players for the League Cup that we can only assume an assault towards the European places is on the cards.

I'm not bothered by the changes. Wolves changed 9. Most of those players were in the team last year. He should have had them better prepared. You cannot run a whole season with one lineup. Players have to integrate and see minutes.

What bothers me is what has bothered me all of since last year. Somebody like Coleman should be nowhere near the team. O'Brien is not suited for RB without a partner that will interplay with him. Myko cannot be the only LB. I am seriously concerned with our lack of plan at fullback. Aznou is nowhere near the team. Garner should have been ahead of Coleman at fullback. We have kept the likes of Coleman around as a scapegoat for far too long. We need to turn a new chapter. No more free rides.

Which exciting young manager did West Ham have? Manuel Pellegrini? Julen Lopetegui? Graham Potter? Nuno Espirito Santi? Potter was the youngest and was 49 years old.

I don't think we can blame Moyes for the Villa result. "Right lads, the plan for today's match is getting 20 shots on goal but make sure only 2 are on target."
I agree with the rest of your post tho.
