2025/26 David Moyes

Is Grealish over worked ? He's played nothing over Summer, and no international call up yet either. Same with Garner, KDH, Alcaraz...maybe NDiaye and Beto have travelled a lot, but still...we are not in the situation to have a mass rest up
Maybe you are right. Whatever the reasoning, it clearly didn't work last night. Again a poor first half cost us. That seems to happen a lot at the moment regardless of who is picked though ...

There's a big difference between armchair managers giving tactical advice about what we could have done better and us quite clearly picking an understrength side though, it's a bit of a daft comparison.

It's not a like for like comparison, granted. But it's the same principle of hindsight being used. As you yourself said, we win last night and it's hailed as a good use of the squad.

I can hold my hands up if I make a howler though, and yes people are entitled to an opinion that we should have went with a stronger team, they're perfectly entitled to their opinions, and it's an understandable view to have. My point is, if we'd have done that, and still lost, a lot of the same people would be blaming the manager for something else, and pointing out exactly why we didn't win.

Managers don't seem to share the opinion of going strong though, pretty much everybody makes loads of changes for this part of this competition, and it's more about being fair to squad members who are less likely to be given their opportunities in PL games. Or it's squad management, like not starting your only senior left back who has been having fitness issues and already being asked to play in games that he probably wouldn't start in an ideal world.

Id suggest the trough is we are climbing out of near oblivion and half a decade of no investment in the team, Howe won the League cup last year he had a four year run at it and spend year on year - is it fair we expect to do it 3 weeks after our first window where we spent a bean in five years.

It is fair to expect an Everton manager to field the best team he has, or as near as damn to it, in a domestic cup competition away to a Premier League team.

[Edit] As for the Howe comparison, you know when I post before that we need to start owning it rather than making stupid excuses? Well, this was his attitude. They won it the following season;

How many teams reach the final of this competition that were far far worse than our strongest starting line up?

Loads.

We needed to be in this and see where it took us. If we'd drawn Arsenal away next round then that's what we would have faced. We might have turned them over, who knows? More likely is that we'd have got a far easier proposition though...and then you're really in the thick of it.

Oh well...

STUCK WITH MOYES, STUCK WITH MOYES, STUCK WITH MOYES....
Wouldn't mind winning anything at all for are fans, if nothing else.
Don't see this team having the bollocks to do it or the manager for that matter has got that let's go for it mentally that the likes of Royle had who had less skillfully players but had more character about them.

More than likely get beat by the first half decent team we came agaist in the later rounds.
Unless we had a dream cup draw this team isnt anywhere near ready to win anything at all.
Sad but true we are at best a lower mid table team and unless we get a striker that can slot will continue to be for the rest of the season.
Who knows now, that may have been in the semi's. For all our attacking investment, I don't think our strikers are getting opportunities according to their strengths are they ? Beto vs Villa wasn't it- where he fluffed a few opportunities? That's all I can really think of mate. Something needs sorting tactically quickly as it looks like Moyes thought he'd just be able to throw all these players onto the pitch and it'd work without the width decent fullbacks would give going forward.

Exactly. A different more bold manager could - with a fair wind behind them - do a lot of damage with this squad of players.

Moyes just doesn't have what it takes.

He's the problem. And we're stuck with him unless the owners fancy paying him up...which I doubt they are.

When is Coleman going to man up and take the decision away from moyes and retire, watching yesterday was painful .

While he’s still getting offered a wage packet for sitting in the corner of the dressing room and clapping, he has no incentive to retire. It’s on the club to take the decision out of his hands, someone should’ve overruled the manager if he was clamouring for him to get a new deal.

Can understand the changes in midfield/final third.

Just dont get the defence line up, could have had round pegs in round holes last night for the first time this season.

Really bizarre!
