2025/26 David Moyes

Why are we prioritising the league in a year we won't go down but won't get close to Europe either?

Surely prudence would be to prioritise trying to win something? That brings European football too.

No one will remember if you come 11th rather than 13th. They will remember if you make a cup final.

I think the lower European spots are wide open actually.

He wasn't though: he was handed a team that beat Wolves comfortably enough 3 weeks ago.

His choice was NOT to play them.
We had over 30 minutes to get back into it. Wolves couldn't get near the ball. The players on the pitch had enough about them to win last night.

Barry or Beto is like being given the choice of a broken arm or broken leg. Don't want either. We got nothing out of RS and drew with Villa because of these 2.

Most annoying last night was Ndiaye thinking he can score from impossible positions. Lost count of his useless potshots.

Hopefully, those aren't the only options.

I look forward to the day went the weakened side can call on better players than some who started last night. Until then, I understand the reluctance to play the likes of Grealish into the ground during the first month of the season if it can be avoided.

I doubt that losing to Wolves will be the biggest disappointment we suffer this season with the squad we have. If our best players get injured then 17th in the league may be about where will end up ...
They really arent' the only options.
Is Grealish over worked ? He's played nothing over Summer, and no international call up yet either. Same with Garner, KDH, Alcaraz...maybe NDiaye and Beto have travelled a lot, but still...we are not in the situation to have a mass rest up

More than likely get beat by the first half decent team we came agaist in the later rounds.
Unless we had a dream cup draw this team isnt anywhere near ready to win anything at all.
Sad but true we are at best a lower mid table team and unless we get a striker that can slot will continue to be for the rest of the season.

Clearly not.

Couldn't disagree with you any more mate.

I'm approaching 40 and can't remember Everton winning a trophy.

We need to start owning that, rather than making daft excuses for exiting cup competitions on a whim.

We get the team we deserve when we start talking up exiting a cup competition as a good thing.

Need another angle mate - average age was 26 yesterday/higher than some league games - and just the 1 teenager who we'd just paid a big fee for. Let's not kid ourselves here - not like we were lashing Aznou, Harrison Armstrong (if we kept him) etc in.

But its the peaks and troughs isn't it mate, Coleman on one hand and other squaides that needed a stretch in the legs - we had 90mill euro in investment we made in the summer in young talent under 22 starting last night.

Those players are the future of the club and they need opportunities, trust to start games, experience exposure and development.

Grealish isn't the future of the football club for the next 5 years.

The trough is 30+ years without a trophy mate.

How many teams reach the final of this competition that were far far worse than our strongest starting line up?

Loads.

We needed to be in this and see where it took us. If we'd drawn Arsenal away next round then that's what we would have faced. We might have turned them over, who knows? More likely is that we'd have got a far easier proposition though...and then you're really in the thick of it.

Oh well...

STUCK WITH MOYES, STUCK WITH MOYES, STUCK WITH MOYES....

So I think they are but if we qualify do we make 7 changes ? Seems mad to prioritise qualifying for a cup tournament by throwing away another cup tournament

We should focus on Conference League qualification so we can rest all our players in it next year in order to prioritise Conference League qualification through our league placing.

The only position I would blame is keeper. Pickford in goal and none of them shots go in. Not many complain with changing the keeper for these games but it could be the issue.

It's harsh to point just at the GK when the manager makes 7 changes to a team that's not doing anything much wrong.

This is the Moyes I remember. We always started the season slow. We'd sack off the cups and the pressure would be on coming into Christmas. We'd get a couple of good results and then come the New Year we'd finish strong and end up in the top half. I was hoping his time away and more experience would change that but the juries out atm.
