2025/26 David Moyes

We'll probably bounce back with a win against a hopeless West Ham and one against a buoyant Palace. I can see that, and it wont make a difference to me.

He's just squandered a realistic chance at getting us a crack at Wembley at the very least.

We needed that sort of platform to announce we've turned a massive corner, and he just completely ignored it because he's an arrogant spanner of a manager with zero feel for the club fanbase...something he underlined many times when he threw a protective arm around the toxic Kenwright regime.

Just GTF Moyes.

Well, I hadn't said arrogant but I do agree with any comment which does - ultimately a manager of a club which hasn't won a trophy in over 30 years, fielding an undeniably weakened team away to Premier League opposition is arrogant, though id prefer to describe as stupid.
I would describe it as prudent.

The weakened team showed how thin the squad is and the success of any team will be measured against their league position not how far they went in a low priority knockout competition...

Think this is nonsense mate.

I'd rather 17th and a cup win, than 9th-12th.

But hey, in another 10 years, cling onto that season when we prudently give Dwight McNeil some minutes in the cup.

Generally, better players have a getter chance to win a football match.

If we play Grealish, Dewsbury-Hall, Pickford, NDiaye and Beto vs West Ham, we'll have a better chance of winning.

Yeah, of course. We get beat by west ham though, and play all those players, then you can guarantee people will be saying stuff like; 'it's Moyes fault for not replacing Keane' or 'play Alcaraz, Grealish or N'diaye in the 10 instead of KDH as a hybrid 8/10' or other such stuff.

I look at the position West Ham are in now and get a bit worried about our future post Moyes.

I don't, because TFG have given me very few reasons to not back them.

GSB at West Ham cheaped their way into the worst football stadium of all time and are incompetent clowns who i genuinely dont think have a clue how to operate a football club..

I said I cant get behind Moyes until he wins us a pot. Based on last night that wont be happening.

Time to break the shackles. Its refreshing after the last few seasons, but I cant accept another period of zero trophies. I back TFG to do it.

100% this, winning a pot not only gets that monkey off our back but also gets us in to Europe. No excuse for not playing a near enough strongest team, rotate 1/2 maybe but not 7.

Last night was very different to that though. It's not just a couple of subjective shouts that can't be proven either way - none of us can disagree with the fact that he intentionally fielded a weakened team.

To me, there's no justification for any Everton manager to ever do that, particularly this season. What's he saving 'best' for?!

on balance so far:
- I was worried that it never works going back to another manager
- we would again settle into a pattern of 6th - 10th position - though that is far far better than what.we have had in the last 8 years!
- we would not be very ambitious

But, the relegation survival was done more easily than expected, and this year we have some really good signings, and some indication that we are going to play better football. I really liked how he was assertive with the ref the other day. I loved how he's managed to get in Grealish, Dibling to sign.

But seeing him play the reserves yesterday was strange. We're not exactly in the World Club champ or the CL with loads of games - the team was not bad, but playing a group of players so out of practice, in the wrong positions, and unfamiliar with each other - that was hard to watch.

I just hopewe can have more fun. I would be happy if we had entertaining matches that we lose but we are getting better and stronger. We just need good times to enjoy, even while we wait for trophies.

Let’s sign young players and develop them, except not play them and play all the 28-30 years olds with PL experience every single game.

You stay around long enough you see everything some fans calling for “PL ready”!

Need another angle mate - average age was 26 yesterday/higher than some league games - and just the 1 teenager who we'd just paid a big fee for. Let's not kid ourselves here - not like we were lashing Aznou, Harrison Armstrong (if we kept him) etc in.

There's a big difference between armchair managers giving tactical advice about what we could have done better and us quite clearly picking an understrength side though, it's a bit of a daft comparison.

Hopefully, those aren't the only options.

I look forward to the day went the weakened side can call on better players than some who started last night. Until then, I understand the reluctance to play the likes of Grealish into the ground during the first month of the season if it can be avoided.

I doubt that losing to Wolves will be the biggest disappointment we suffer this season with the squad we have. If our best players get injured then 17th in the league may be about where we will end up ...

Why are we prioritising the league in a year we won't go down but won't get close to Europe either?

Surely prudence would be to prioritise trying to win something? That brings European football too.

No one will remember if you come 11th rather than 13th. They will remember if you make a cup final.
