2025/26 David Moyes

The squad isn’t better than 13/14. In quality and certainly depth.

The manager whether you like him, his style, the way he conducts himself, whatever, will out perform this squad.

He will get more from this squad than he should, and that is the definition of a good manager.

Do I want Moyes long term no…

Do I accept and realise that there has to be bridge to a brighter future? Yes.

You do not go from consistent relegation battlers, staying up on the last day etc - to Europe in one season.

Moyes is a solid enough premier league manager. We will finish 10/12. That is more than acceptable, so longs we finish 8/10 or above next year.
I think a braver manager will get more out of these players. We seen Leeds at city, we have a better squad than Leeds,
But at 2-0 down they went for it and
Got back to 2-2 and were the better side, even thought they still lost late on, did that believe help them beat Chelsea ??

What did our old school manager do at. 2-0 down v city, threw on defensive players and after the game spoke about goal difference, 6 games into a season. That’s the definition of an old school, negative manager. The game has moved on from managers like Moyes

To say it’s 14th at best is like the dychettes saying 17th was the best we could do. And that would be a good job 😂

Think as we’re seeing the league is wide open, we have enough talented players to be in the mix for 10th place. I don’t think we will be getting Europe, think Moyes being to conservative will eventually let us down. We’re already seeing what happens when we score first or concede first. It’s always been Moyes’s MO
It's exactly the same for every manager who manages a team at our level. Moyes is an excellent manager.

Even if that were true they got one point for being brave and are 5 points behind us. The approach that accumulates the most points is the right approach regardless of of individual one of results.

Those who expect Europe from this squad are mainly those who think Moyes isn’t good enough.

Moyes set that target from his squad this summer.

This squad is around 13/14 best in the league. Good enough to not get relegated imho, but one that off the back of a couple bad results would be looking over our shoulder.

We earned the points to achieve above that the past few seasons, closer to europe than relegation and we then spent a club record amount before even factoring in Grealish.

Based on the two seasons prior to this, and the investment we've had - we should be looking top 10. We'll finish 7th-12th.

If we signed full backs, some pace on either wing and a capable striker - then it would have been europe.

….Leeds were 2 down inside 25 mins, City didn’t scored their first against us until around 60 mins.

Only Arsenal has more away points than Everton during Moyes 2nd spell here, so it’s a very odd argument being made.

Leeds had a poor team and very average manager, but Even he realises to try and get back into a football game, you need to make subs and have a go. We have one of the oldest starting 11’s and make the least subs. Yes we don’t have many options at the minute, but they’re was plenty of games when we did had option off the bench. He is being forced to play Tim at the moment, when he’s hardly had any minutes. Same as McNeil or Dibling, Moyes will need them over the next 6 weeks and both will be going in cold

He’s still made defensive subs at 2-0 and talked about goal difference. That’s a fact
Like he said about Newcastle needed to have an off day for us to beat them,
Which is what obviously happened in May

….only Arsenal have more away points than Everton during Moyes’ 2nd spell here, just let that sink in, Matey. No argument with that stat.

We always get these type of ante-Moyes posts as the next game gets nearer, here’s hoping it’s a nice quiet thread tomorrow night.

Very good stat, but I think away from
Home suits Moyes and he sets up for 0-0 and will take draws and will say that’s a very good result in the prem. At home he’s not so great imo when the home fans expect. We’ve had 2 good performances in 7. Villa and Fulham, palace and Brighton missed sitters and both could have been out of sight. Even West Ham were the better team in the 2nd half and we seen what spurs and Newcastle did to us. Big game tomorrow as like v Newcastle he will come up against pace on the break and a manager happy to sit in, will Moyes do anything different or the same thing he’s done for
20yrs

just out of interest, what were the defensive subs he made?

At 70 mins he swapped Alcaraz and Gana for Tim and Rohl. Then at 75 brought on a striker Barry). Then brought on two further attackers (McNeil/Dibling) for the last 5+added.

None of those are defensive players.
