A very good manager/coach is surely one who takes a club from being a "plucky little club who typically finish bottom half" and turns them into a club that sits at "the big boys table"

I think the minority West Ham fans did based on the fact that he was the lesser of many previous evils at a Club run even worse than us.

Most Blues were relatively content for his first 6-7 seasons and then grew increasingly bored and frustrated with his approach to both games and scrutiny. Why would anyone expect that approach to change 12 years later?

two keepers on the bench is really, really pee'ing me off. It totally demotivates any youngsters shining in the U21's and sends a big signal to any potential signings who aren't his typical experienced Premier League targets.

Anyone in the u21's doing any good should be out on loan anyhow.

Roman Dixon? The player not seen all season? With his leg in a cast? Who isn't even that good in U21 football?

Maybe, just maybe, I'm not actually making excuses for someone, merely pointing out the holes if your argument. The squad is thin right now and we can only rotate out if there's someone to rotate in.

I really don't get the calls to sack Moyes. Newcastle was terrible and the season has been disappointing so far but he isn't long term. He should be bale to keep up mid table this year then make the change at the end of the season.

We left the ground a few minutes after the fourth goal on Saturday, the earliest I can remember leaving a game.

Walking away from the ground I noticed a lot of parents with small children with them - many of an age where it might have been their first visit to the new stadium, maybe even their first Everton game. With prices as they are and times being hard for many families, this may well have been a special treat for the kids, possibly their only visit to watch us this season.

The arrogance of the man who served up that performance for them is astounding. Who on earth does he think he is asking for positive questions after that showing?

World has changed with the new owners for sure but even Jose Mourinho was talking about football heritage and little horses and that was when he was in charge of United and Chelsea winning trophies. It’s just what managers do.

If we gave managers better players results would improve. They’d improve more by that than us just asking them to change their mentality. If we had a manager failing to manage a top quality squad I could accept criticism a lot more but we give them an absolute pile of rubbish and then start battering them for saying games might be difficult in press conferences or that other teams are better than us.

It wouldn’t wash if we’d given Moyes or Dyche a top 6 squad but they can easily just turn around and point to no fit right backs, no quality striker, no depth at holding mid, one left back, no pace in the backline or midfield, and the squad is very injury prone. Dyche especially could point to being bottom of the league for net spend over 5 years.

If we ranked the squads in quality from 1 to 20 at the start of the season and took the manager out the equation then Everton’s would probably be in the bottom half behind the sky six, Newcastle, Villa, Palace, Forest, Brighton. Might be an argument over the bottom positions but you can see my point.

Moyes may well turn around at the end of the season with a top half finish and say what more can be expected given the squad he received.

It’s the same problem Everton have had for 30 years that we give the manager squads of a certain level and then expect significant continuous over performance. As soon as it doesn’t happen fans get annoyed.

It needs to start with sinking much more money into this squad and buying much better players with pace, technique, power, intelligence, leadership and resilience. It doesn’t start by moaning at the manager to ‘go for it more’ or being more positive in press conferences. It would be nice but doesn’t move the dial.

I don't disagree with much of this - of course we have to spend money - but I know that you could give Moyes the best players in the world and he will still find a way to elevate the opposition, talk the club down, and manage expectations.

And much of the money he has already been given is currently looking like it went up a wall...

Nobody is saying we should be finishing above Newcastle or tonking them when they come to play us. But people are right to expect heads to roll when they rock up, having not won away for months, and just embarrass us without getting out of 2nd gear.

He talks like Everton are lucky to have him and shouldn't expect anything. That is the same attitude he had last time and it was unacceptable then. It's even less acceptable now, not now we're club being ran seriously finally and not the toy of some old queen who treated his managers as infalliable.

If Moyes wants to manage a club with zero pressures then he P off back to Preston.

2 of our last 3 home games have been all but over by half time, against teams below us in the league. I can't quite get my head round the mentality of people saying 'ah well, what do you expect him to do?' about that type of performance and result.
