2025/26 David Moyes

Tonight was most 'Anti Moyes' posters biggest complaint, not winning away to the big boys.

He served it up on a plate with 10 men..

You have to bear in mind that it's a United team that's just had it's worst finish since being relegated in the 70s, and a team we finished above last season, despite all the drama we went through as a club.

It was a big psychological victory for the club, imo. But I really hope Moyes and his staff don't get too ahead of themselves, ultimately, we played a team roughly about our level last night, we should be expecting to go there with a good chance of winning.

That said, I really don't want to sound to detracting from the Manager, to get that win under the circumstances was brilliant.

All of that is true - but it's also true that Manchester United have been there for the taking countless times over the years and we've rarely managed to do it.

This is a huge psychological hurdle the team got over in exceptional circumstances.

It should be celebrated on its own terms.

Not many teams will go anywhere and win with 10 men for 80 minutes of the game, let alone Old Trafford. It’s still a tough place to go for the majority of teams in the league.

A distinctly un-Moyes approach to a game at OT, and when the game got turned on its head, the players put on a truly incredible performance. Let's have it right, United were abysmal, but we still win that 0 times out of 100 before last night.

A couple of blotches on Moyes's copybook, though. Starting Coleman was ill-advised, and bringing on McNeil over Dibling - who he has literally just said he wants to give more minutes to - was a shocker as well.
Think it was to cover Grealish who'd worked his backside off to cover and help Myko and was the natural left footer for the job.

Re Dibling, Moyes took 12 months acquainting Baines in to LB, I suppose we just have to trust his approach, after all he worked so hard to make the signing happen, he'll get minutes when our hand is forced anyway either over Christmas or when the Afcon is on.

Well he came on, did nothing, got walked by a few times. I'd prefer an actual footballer, regardless of left or right footedness - even more so when Ndiaye also played left wing for a while and isn't left footed.

It's probably a trust thing as it was with Baines, and I sort of get that, but this is overly cautious - we're setting ourselves up for Dibbling taking several games anyway as he wouldn't have played at all by the time AFCON/boxing day come around.

No idea if it was said. But managers normally take one of their better players off when you go down to 10men to hang on. So good on Moyes for not doing it. If that had anything to do with Coleman going off a few mins early, who knows
Yes, this all day.

I am a card-carrying critic of Moyes, but this last night deserves every respect. Moyes has rightly been criticised for being ultra cautious and risk averse over the years. But last night he basically said "I trust my forwards, I trust my creative players, and I'm not going to get too clever or defensive about this." The temptation for managers in this situation is to do an Arrigo Sacchi and remove Roberto Baggio. But Moyes basically said Grealish and Ndiaye will work their socks off and give us an out, and Barry will become an ever-present nuisance to occupy their defenders. Because of this - and because of the way the team started - Moyes cannot be accused of getting luckly last night. He made his own luck.

Coleman going off was a blessing in disguise - and if you were going to lose another player, far better for it to be the 35-year-old. If last night told us anything, it's that the old men of 37 and 35 are not prerequisites to this team's success.

The fact we had a man sent off and players were ill-disciplined that early in a game underlined a team was sent out on the pitch without proper management of them.

Obviously that Keane v Gueye spat has been coming. How has Moyes not seen that and ended it in training?

As I said above: we could easily be here this morning if Cunha had started for them with a rabble of players and a loss.

There is no redeeming moment for Moyes in last night's result. He got it wrong from the off and the rest was just throwing all the chess pieces in the air to see where they landed.
