I missed the rule change about their only being 11 members of a squad then, I guess?

To be fair the 2 keepers we signed are just bodies to fill the bench. Like every other backup keeper we've had for years.

We were poor against Leeds, against Villa, against West Ham and poor for long spells against Palace as well as the poor showing at the pit, but, as I've said, we're doing ok, not especially good but ok. We're 12th but it's early in the season so we can go up or we can slide down the table, there's plenty of football to be played. It's odd to want to shut down any criticism, no matter how mild, even at this stage. We've played well in patches and poorly in other patches, that's not especially controversial, I don't think. Moyes is a part of what happens on the pitch, he gets praise when he gets it right and criticism when he gets things wrong, like anyone else. You have claimed that there has been an overreaction to recent results, and that may be true, but you seem to be overreacting to that overreaction to me. Barring one or two posters nobody has genuinely suggested sacking Moyes or anything like that, they have just queried whether he is the best man to take this club forward in the medium term. That's a reasonable thing to discuss on a football club's forum, surely?

It's very early days to the season. We are already doing far better than this point last season by any metric you want to pick. Find me anything that shows he's not improved from last year. Is our ascension rapid and unstoppable? No, it is steady progress though. People should be happy with that for now and give him a bit of patience to get more than three months into the season

Of the 3 league matches we have lost one was undeserved (imo) and the other two were to the likely top two teams in the country. We may have played poor at times, but no team dominates for 90 minutes and it's the results that matter. He's not really been "getting it wrong" at all.

We were one dimensional vs villa.
We invited west ham onto us.
We did similar (^^) and won away at wolves.
We coughed up a half vs the rs and city. <--- fergusons united, they could do just enough, stretch a side just past breaking and do enough to get the win. It's funny he was into horses so much, like a jockey he knew when to hype his steed up and go for glory and he knew when he could outlast the rest of the field.
We were outplayed quite severely vs Brighton, who are the side I've been most impressed by (outside of a steroid infused norse viking god for city).
We got our luck vs palace.

All this was called at the time in the respective match threads. (by me!)

over reactions to over reactions to over reactions, this could go on forever. there's pish takers, undercover rs, yoda, silly, and then a faction that just want the pain to end.

New ground, new owners, a few new players, the support aspect could probably do with being appreciated as support? Has there not been enough civil war? I trust Moyes to not play roulette with our club like some of the shysters we've had previous. I'm a simple person or simple requirements. We can have our day again in the sun, but we have to earn it. We'd won 3 in 19 in January this year. Say that out loud and realise the jeopardy we were in. Again.

I'm not arguing that he's not better than Dyche, that would be insane, I pity Notts Forest. The idea he hasn't got anything wrong, not a single thing, is far more extreme than anything I've said. He's got us in 12th in the league after two very difficult ties and five ties that you would expect us to be competitive in, like I say that's ok, it's no better than ok.

I agree with most of what you say. I'm not looking to foment civil war but having differences of opinions within a fan base regarding a manager is pretty normal. It shouldn't be treated as the killing of a sacred deer. I also trust Moyes as a safe pair of hands but I don't trust him beyond that. I wasn't keen in him returning for a wide variety of reasons but, as it turns out, he was probably exactly the right person for the second half of last season. Is he the right person beyond that point? I suspect that's where you and I disagree.

But it's not that he hasn't gotten anything wrong but rather that it's all trending in the right direction so taking a microscope to every decision with the benefit of hindsight is a bit moot? No better than OK is a big jump up from looking over our shoulder, a bit of perspective and context from where we were a mere 12 months ago will go a long way.

I've got far more questions over some of the budget allocation and transfer decisions than I do the tactics or performances right now but even then we spent 100 million and that's chump change. He's brought us from relegation battlers to midtable, it's all trending positively unless you're a Negative Nelly.

Is it perfect? No, of course not, but it seems like that's what it would take to make some of you happy.

It shouldn't be treated as the killing of a sacred deer. I also trust Moyes as a safe pair of hands but I don't trust him beyond that. Beyond a safe pair of hands... interesting, there's scope here. Can he do more with more of a chance? Judging him on yesterday by todays constraints, see why it becomes tiresome?
Perfect, if Moyes is immediately the right person for now but the absolute wrong person for tomorrow... who... is... the... absolute... right... for... tomorrow?

You make some very fair points and I largely agree.

I don't think Everton have played well in two halves of the same game yet this season.

I'm generally a fan of Moyes. The job he did last season was remarkable.

However, it could go one way or the other at this point. Very fortunate to beat Palace otherwise we would already be looking over our shoulders.

Branthwaite not being available has been a body blow. He would really change the way the team could play and push the defence higher up the pitch.

So we are stuck with two solid penalty box centre backs meaning the team can only push up so far.

Full backs are obviously an issue which hinder the quality wingers and my main gripe with Moyes is him not playing Alcaraz at #10. Most frustrating as I think playing him there and Dewsbury-Hall slotting in next to Gueye with Garner at right back is the way to go.

Any way, I support Moyes as Everton manager and let's see how he gets on.
