2025/26 David Moyes

My idea of progression is we went from being in a relegation battle to challenging for Europe.

Playing the young players doesn't automatically win you in any more points. It doesn't really mean anything at all. All that matters are results in the here and now and Moyes has done alright.

This makes no sense with the rules as they are.

He's got young players in for substantial outlay. He should develop them.

If we finish 9th without developing players then we may as well have finished 13th again but improved players with significant game time in their correct positions.

Then next season we'd have a far stronger squad.

Two games left and we have one point more than last season. We may well end up with more points, but equally may not so for those who are saying we have progressed, if you are happy with 1 point progression (as it stands) but with the select few who make the first team being ran ragged, and with a lot of the inbound transfers £ being left on the bench then yes I’d agree.

A winning mentality alone doesn't bring wins. You need the players too. What did Moyes do wrong today? Saying he doesn't have a winning mentality is nonsense. He's taken over a relegation threatened team got us safe that season and this season we were safe by Christmas..weve improved in all areas and signed some decent players. Yeah it's been frustrating at times but that's football. We had so many chances today. We played well. I don't get it personally. If we keep heading in the right direction we'll get there. It doesn't happen overnight. That's my view anyway.
Much too logical for this forum

Villa were 3 points above the drop zone when Emery went there by the way. They qualified for Europe that season and have been in it every year since. Don’t let him twist the narrative to suggest it’s a miracle we’re 10th in the league.
I’d imagine loads of their fanbase were telling others they needed stability, who could they get to replace Gerrard, their squad wasn’t good enough and that they needed to stay in their lane for a few years…

My problem with the strategy of relying on young players is you have no idea if they're ever going to be good enough. We kept Tom Davies here for years and we were worse for it.

On the bolded part, I completely agree.

I also don't think changing the manager guarantees anything, of course it's a risk, but at some point we're going to have to risk something, doing the same thing over and over again pretty much guarantees the same, unsatisfying outcomes.

Where I disagree with you is that this manager gets us 4th or 5th, I can't see that at all. This has been one of the weakest leagues in living memory and we'll probably finish 9th to 13th. Next year Chelsea, Spurs and Newcastle will likely be better than their dismal showing this year. With Moyes, we'll be roughly where we are now. And on and on it will go. The same arguments next year about progress and/or stability.

We need to grasp the nettle.

I get it mate, I do.

I think if he gets his recruitment spot on in the summer and signs some better players, he’ll get us to them positions. The leagues been terrible for years, it’s just that we are seeing it been rubbish this year, cos we know our squad isn’t great and they’ve bottled it but been within touching distance of it. The season will be poor next season and now we’ve got a bit of stability on the pitch. We can push on next season. I think we’ll get Europe next season with this manager. This year was to soon imo, but next year we will.

Next summer we part ways and go out and get a young modern manager with fresh ideas, a plan and sign players that suits his system.
