2025/26 David Moyes

Davey has been brilliant for us since he returned but I think he could have been bolder yesterday with his selection/subs. Really need someone going past Grealish on the outside and I think whilst Garner had a solid game, he doesn’t do that. Should have been Aznou and Garner CM for me.

The manager made a couple of like for like swaps and sat on his hands. He made no attacking substitutions against a Villa team who offered pretty much zero attacking threat. Especially as people seem to want to ignore the strength of this squad compared to last season's.

Moyes WILL be judged to higher standards than Dyche - and rightly so. He has spent more than 100m. I think the manager has done a very good job since his return: an excellent one, in fact. But yesterday was a classic example of his conservatism where he made little attempt to win the game through proactive adjustment on the bench.

Missed opportunity yesterday. A defeat in the derby will mean 7 points from 5 games, which is merely a moderate start. That cup game at Wolves takes on a much more important perspective then.

He is what he is: a bread and butter old school manager who'll never be adventurous.

Absolutely spot on.

...and you know that he'll go to Anfield with a plan not to be beaten...by too much.

And Wolves away in the LC will be difficult despite their current woes. It's very difficult to do the double in a short space of time against another PL club no matter what form they're in - especially given they're at home.
