2024/25 David Moyes

He's been back a little over a month.

When he re-signed, we were 16th and only 1 point clear of relegation.

Fast forward to today and we're 15th, 10 points clear of relegation and a win by 2 clear goals over the weekend will guarantee us moving up to at least 13th. Can any of us honestly say we'd have seen us this position a month ago?

He's done a hell of a job in a very short period of time. We'll inevitably have another rough patch this season, but he's got us moving in the right direction.
I reckon having Baines and Coleman immediately involved means the legacy of his first spell is still very much alive. Some of the attitude, temperament, and preparation for training and for matches will be familiar. So it's not so much a blank canvas he's starting with, but to mix metaphors very much, a previously worn and broken in pair of trabs he's come back to. Confidence and faith and trust and a big breath of fresh air after so much of the gloom and misery.

As a club we were beaten down, by the points deductions, by the scraping survival, by the horrendous game set ups, by a manager that only had a prehistoric method of trying for games, by giving up when a goal was conceded.
We've had a lift, there's bumps in the road to come, but we play in front of 52k next season and it's looking like in the PL. We'll see players come and go this summer and approach our new future with some optimism.

It’s funny under Dyche I hadn’t thought how much I will miss Goodison, mainly because it was so grim that I couldn’t see past the crap football and toxic atmosphere. But Moyes coming back has allowed me to realise how many amazing memories I have of Goodison Park, how I’ve spent the past 30 years with my Dad going to that place I love so much. As the move approaches I am starting to feel the increased sadness that comes with the move. Last night was one of the moments that will live with me for a lifetime. If nothing else, I thank Moyes for lifting the gloom and allowing us to enjoy our final games at what has and is a unique and magical place.

I must say, as much as I personally prefer we get a new manager in the summer, I am delighted for the fans who are buzzing right now after so much misery....in particular if yours is a common sentiment amongst the match goers to Goodison. It's great to read honestly

he said the abuse Doucoure received was "completely wrong"

what more do you want him to say?
Well firstly he could have said what he did with more conviction, but in summary, any or all of:

- Racism is horrible
- Racists are trashbags
- Racists should be IDed and given lifetime bans
- Social media should introducer tighter controls on/punishment of racist behaviour
- Everyone should feel able to play the game without fear of being abused

One throwaway comment from Page 1 of the Media Training Handbook does not constitute strong condemnation.

If a racist and a black footy player were watching that presser, only one of them feels emboldened to keep doing what they're doing.

Surely the point of having media officers and the like is that they anticipate this line of questioning and prepare the manager with a stock response.

It was poor from Moyes but worse from media professionals at the club.

99% of these press conferences are just stupid and pointless banal questions with potted answers. The manager of the day who has other things to concern himself with might be expected to be adept enough to handle these situations, but ultimately the matter should be taken out of his hands.

Here's how the BBC Football pages reported his comments;

Everton midfielder Doucoure was targeted with racist abuse on social media following Wednesday's match, and Merseyside Police have opened an investigation.

Asked about Doucoure, Moyes said: "He's fine. I was disappointed that he got himself sent off. The club will look at the situation here as we go along."

He added: "It still doesn't mean that people can abuse you and if they have then it's completely wrong."

Fair enough I'd say and whilst his answer was clunky, the point has clearly been taken (at least by the BBC).

I did love this answer though. Which also didn't have much to do with the question asked. Maybe Davey was just doing his own press conference

I do think that managers often come into a press conference with things they want to say and try and shoehorn that answer into whatever question is asked. It's a shame, if that's what he was doing, that he did that for that particular question. He should've been much clearer in hammering the racists and not muddying the waters with the stuff about suspensions. He could've brought the suspension up in an answer to a subsequent question.

Lol

Is right dave … infact .. I heard he jumped in the crowd and he was the person that threw the bottle on the pitch … then stole some candy from a baby and then signed some elderly , blind , deaf widow up for solar on the way home …

Proper rat he is …

Moyes was playing to the gallery by trying to look statesmanlike: praising Liverpool and their manager. But he allowed admonishing his own player to become a part of that...a player who first and foremost should have been given 100% support in the face of the racial abuse he suffered. But Moyes didn't do that, and he didn't - in my view - because he didn't want to rock the boat with the Kopite media.

It was a 💩house performance.

Oh! Davek :( you must stop this witch hunt against Moyes. Quite a good majority like him being back considering he has already equalled Dyches win rate after 5 league games. Just let it go

Nazi Moyles confirmed alas.
