I always thought it was purely down to money. We had a great team but lacked a finisher. Also, you end up with a thin squad compared the the top teams in the league as well.

That final season under Moyes the team played fabulous football. It’s not like Bobby walked in and transformed a team of donkeys into some great passing side through sheer will and coaching nous.
I agree, always seemed to be missing that one bit of class to finish it off. For example we kept Liverpool largely at bay on Wednesday but two bits of that 'something from nothing' by Salah just cancelled out all the hard work. It's gutting, if we'd have had that bit of 'extra' under Moyes back then I'm sure we would've won something. Imagine someone like Kanchelskis in that Moyes team!

He's been back a little over a month.

When he re-signed, we were 16th and only 1 point clear of relegation.

Fast forward to today and we're 15th, 10 points clear of relegation and a win by 2 clear goals over the weekend will guarantee us moving up to at least 13th. Can any of us honestly say we'd have seen us this position a month ago?

He's done a hell of a job in a very short period of time. We'll inevitably have another rough patch this season, but he's got us moving in the right direction.

I didn't think we'd see another shot on target a month ago, let alone a win!

He's got us mov'n alright and I have even had time to get my coat on.

Woooooo

The difference that Moyes seems to be making with all the players confidence is pretty incredible tbh.

Rather than constantly telling that they`re crap and can`t expect anything other than avoiding relegation, he`s given them their self belief back.

#ThankyouGaffer.

In other words he’s just doing what a manager is paid to do, managing the players. Coaching them to be better and learn and hone new skills. What a mad concept that I was made to believe is alien.

I didn’t want Moyes. I wanted a complete break from the past and just saw him as a tired, unimaginative appointment. But, whilst we could still be in the throes of a “new manager bounce”, I’m happy to have been proved wrong thus far. My fears about him harking back to the days of “Chairman Bill”, knife to a gunfight etc have been allayed. He seems a different fella, a lot more comfortable and calm and in control. Think he’s smiled more in these few weeks than in the previous 20 years. He’s talking the club up, he’s got us Goodison “back” and appreciates the significance of it and has evolved as a coach. Oh, and actually coaches players to improve them and play to their strengths. He is light years away from the turgid, negative, self serving slop served up by a failing, redundant, prehistoric Dyche. Another couple of wins and this nightmare season will end up with us having a boss last day v Southampton free of worry and looking to the future.

Brilliant...

A win against Southampton and we will finish in the top 10.

Vault me.

He is exactly what the doctor ordered. The passion and pride had been drained out of me. I genuinely was wondering if I was getting older more cynical and it was just the new normal.

Up until Moyes came I would watch games and apart from. Illiman and Brant I wouldn't have cared if we sold all the rest. I had no love for the players.

Now I'm behind all of them. I'm supporting everton like when I was a teen. And its no coincidence it's the same man back from them golden days.

And its not nostalgia. The proof is in the pudding. The heart. The togetherness.

Yes there will be bad times. But I won't turn my back. We would have a horror season and finish 17th. Only to finish 4the the season after. We were all pulling in the same direction back then. Let's not be entitled bubble blowing bellends. We get what we give woth Moyes and vice versa.

UTT

We did. That became forgotten, sadly.

I remember an away victory against Villa where we looked like 1970 Brazil.

arguably the best football we played under Moyes

Martin Jol (i think) at Fulham compared us to Barcelona with how attacking our full backs were

Baines and Fellaini had their best seasons at the club and were the leagues best players for their position. Osman had arguably his best season for us playing centrally. Mirallas finally gave us pace out wide. Gibson kept us ticking over and Seamus finally got a go at right back

If we had got Rom on loan that year we could’ve qualified for the Champions League i think

I've just mentioned it in the Dyche thread, if Moyes is given 2 seasons and backed in the transfer window I'm absolutely certain we'll be playing in Europe again in some form.

He'll build a solid foundation as that's what he always does, then sprinkles it with talent who can work hard. 2 seasons MAX and we'll be in Europe and all of us would take that after the last 6-7 seasons we've endured.

I still don't want him because the club needs to be purged of Kenwrightism. We are a huge club and it's about time we started acting like one. Yes, one step at a time, but if these new owners are genuinely ambitious, we should be aiming to eventually win the league. No, it won't happen any time soon, but you've got to aim high if you've got the money to back your hopes and dreams. I am sick to death of fans - many of whom have never seen us win the league or dominate Europe - who think 7th or 9th or 12th and a cup quarter-final are good seasons. We can be champions if the ownership is right, because that's what history tells us and the sheer size of the club means our ceiling is high.

So my opposition to Moyes is based on self-installed glass ceilings that limit our potential and the continuation of "good times." HOWEVER - the man has worked wonders so far. Only a churl could deny the immediate impact he has made. I'm enjoying this iteration of Moyes, the old sage. We had the young manager learning his trade. Now, we seem to have the wizened old fox. I like this version. There's no substitute for experience if talent is already there.

So, my take is that if he can continue to keep the club on an upward curve, then he deserves his chance to start the rebuild. I don't expect miracles this season. I just want us safe with signs that we are now punching upwards. I want to play Man United knowing we can win. I want to see us having a proper go. I want to see us continue to climb away - eventually - from the bottom four.

I very much doubt Moyes is the man for the future, but he has made a hugely impressive start in proving his detractors wrong. He is a good manager. With the right backing - and the jury is very much still out on these Americans, in my book - then perhaps he is now ready to take a risk or two and take off the handbrake when his team is capable of bloodying the noses of the big boys. That's what I really want to see. A properly-funded club allowing an experienced, competent manager to build a side that goes to Arsenal and United and Chelsea and...beats them now and then. Do that and he can stay for life, as far as I'm concerned.

So, Friedkins: back this man big-time in the summer if he really is your choice. Back him BIG. I want to see what he can do when he finally takes a GUN - a big bloody bazooka - to a gunfight.
