Since he has returned he has called us a huge club and tonight he called us a big club. Someone will likely correct me but I don’t recall him saying anything like that in his first time here. He says these things yet he’s lauding winning a semi final against Man Utd, id understand that if he had won the cup that year but for me it’s not what a big club should be reminiscing about much.

We didn't have money when he was here the first time. You can say you're a big club as much as you want but if you don't have the money to back it up it means nothing.

If you want to ignore the resources available to a manager when they're in charge and hold that as a stick to beat them with then more the fool you.

Anyone who wasn't an Everton fan wouldn't have expected us to win trophies with the resources Moyes was given, so why do you?

Having unreasonable expectations doesn't make you right, it makes you delusional.

Im not ignoring the resources available

“I can give you five million a year” remember that? All those players that had to be sold, The protests against the chairman when he was applauded during a match against Aston Villa.

And I wasnt expecting us to win all kinds, my point is his first period here is hailed by some as a lot more than what it is. He did a solid job of papering over the cracks of a poorly run club and I don’t want a repeat of it.

This time I want him to actually achieve some real success if hopefully these new owners can sort the club out. What’s delusional about that? Should be something to aim for, be excited about long term.

You didn't think he should be boasting about cup semi finals with a budget of £5m a year, considering when he was manager, despite the fact many other clubs had far bigger budgets. I think it was fair of him to be proud of achieving that.

I agree with the tone of your post now though.

The new stadium is amazing, but after last night. I’m just not ready to let go of this ground.
Imagine all that blue smoke floating out cross the Mersey though? :) we can deffo drag some kind of song out of ‘smoke on the water’ once we move there. I think if they worked as much on the acoustic's as they claim, it will be just as much of a bear pit, but with more mental blues going crazy when we score.

He did a very good job given the constraints he was under. In historical terms, however, he achieved nothing. That's just a fact. He's a good manager. If he is staying after this season, he MUST be backed financially so he has no excuses in rebuilding this club. He will deserve that backing. Then, he HAS to spend it well and push us on. And when the time comes where we are truly competitive, he MUST deliver.

This is not to hold something over his head. This is simply to return this club to the standards of the past and to the standards of other big clubs who have left us in the dust thanks, largely, to the paucity of ambition and resources of Bill Kenwright.

Let's not forget, bar Martinez, not one manager since got near his performance levels consistently. With far greater resources in the main.

I think people forget how much he did across the whole club set up as well.

The time we can truly judge the manager and do him justice will be when this club consistently backs him financially. Any success he has had at Everton has been couched in terms of resources. This has suited the club's narrative - "didn't we have good times?" and "I am only a millionaire in an era of billionaires". It has also suited Moyes, to some extent. A trophy has never been demanded of him.

We'll know this club is back when its custodians are providing managers with the serious funds needed to compete and is demanding a return on that investment from managers in silverware.

Anything else is knife to a gunfight stuff and plucky underdogism.
