2024/25 David Moyes

Nah, the best football we’ve played in Premier League was under Martinez. People do want to be entertained. That’s exactly what Klopp did, he knew the team wasn’t going to win the league when he came in so he played fast exciting, entertaining football to buy him time until he could build a team that could win the league. Playing boring football this time around just isn’t going to cut it.
Jep, first Martinez season was ul to miss out of CL, usually u get in there with 72 points.

But in the end his other 2 seasons were worse than Dyche‘s only full season.

No what he did do was move them forward every season. 8th, 4th, CL final, 2nd. He bought time because he was moving forward. I can tell you right now for certain if he’d have dropped out of the CL places at any point in those first few seasons and started going backwards then those fans would have hounded him out regardless of the football.

Slot is playing perhaps the most boring football I’ve ever seen from a league title winner. Guardiola’s treble team was nowhere near as ‘exciting’ as his 17/18 team. Does anyone care? No, because they’re winning.

It’s fine to say you want excitement whilst winning games but there is zero excitement in losing and drawing games regardless of how you play. Everyone saying ‘I just wish we’d go for it’ really just means ‘I just wish we’d win’. Because when we go for it with a high line away at Spurs or Chelsea and get ripped apart 4 or 5-0 I can tell you right now not a single person on here would find that entertaining.

People want exciting winning football which is just about the hardest thing in football to produce and is the goal of just about every top team with even only a few of them able to pull it off.

His target next season would be 8th if the spend is £100mil.

If he does that then there will be no complaints from me on that front.

As others have said, he'll keep us away from danger and competing for around mid-table but I'd be hoping for the team not to be lower than tenth next season and would be a bit disappointed if we aren't competing for the top eight like Forrest, Brentford, Bournemouth, Fulham and Brighton have been this season despite the good job he's done since returning.

We need to be getting the results like Bournemouth did against Arsenal yesterday but we never pull off those results, with or without Moyes but you don't really get those kind of results with him at all.

I'd be happy to see what players are brought in under him and give him a full season and see if there's much of an improvement since he came back this season mind.

….so Moyes picks Alcaraz, Ndiaye, McNeil and Patterson to start yesterday and no Doucoure or Harrison just as some posters have been clamouring for. Apparently our XG was lower than any other team Ipswich has faced all season.

Maybe Moyes knows what he’s doing with team selection.

The front line who started yesterday didn't work hard enough, particularly in the second half. The way we finished the game on the back foot was not good enough and shouldn't be accepted. You should not be getting over ran and out powered in the final third of the game at home to relegated sides.

Something deeply ingrained at Everton to stop us winning at the top away grounds.

Every other club pull off the occasional win, but not us for 30 years (discounting the games without fans as it clearly wasn’t the same challenge)

Hopefully the new ground will give us a new start, new mentality.

Ndaiye clearly isn't fit though, a quick look at his numbers from yesterday and they are way down compared to the rest of his team mates. that front four also needs some game time together, in parts they looked decent (especially in the first half) but it clearly needs a bit of work. There is something to work with imo

We need to move away from safety first managers who tend to favour that mentality, its been woven into the fabric of this club now and won't change whilst Moyes is here so will have to wait a bit longer for change.

That's true, it's a weird thing actually, because Roma had a really bad run at the end of the previous season, but nonetheless they decided to stick with with de Rossi and give him a new contract.

The situation here is that Moyes has been in management for years and is predictable what you get. In January 2025, we knew we had to first away from the relegation battle + you got to manage a huge squad change in summer.

If you as a board then go and say, Moyes is the man to make it till summer 2027 with a contract probably around 5m year, you would be stupid to bin him in summer, unless you really have an average of zero point something.

For me the squad atm is the bigger problem, as overall Moyes delivered enough to stay and not waste another 10m we need for the squad.

The original plan was to run with Dyche till the summer and then replace him.

Moyes was never going to be that guy. Will they let Moyes who was a stop gap revamp the squad or will they go back to the original plan??

Does that explain his crap subbiing.

100%, but they had more than enough time to prepare for different outcomes, as we've been struggling with Dyche all season and one was an early sacking and what they are going to do then.

I just can't understand to give someone a long term contract, if he's planned in the same role for just half a season.
