2024/25 David Moyes

Wi

Qualified for, not won, like Emery and Howe have done with Villa and Newcastle on a similar budget.

You know i honestly think West Ham have killed themselves somewhat by moving to that stadium. As much a part is manager selection you just cant get going in that athletics stadium. Villa park and St James park are a big plus for managers when building momentum. Ive watched a few west ham home games and the crowd look so disconnected from the play. They all look like they dont want to be sitting there.

Ours is different.

Theirs was free, as was Man City’s.

Ours is world class AND retains the closeness to the pitch with the steep stand angles.

WHU pitch is miles alway from the seats isn’t it? Atmosphere stone dead coz of that.

Now that we’re safe I’m genuinely looking forward to whatever press releases are sent out on Moyes’ first BMD visit.

Yeah i was only talking about west ham. Not Evertons.
It must be a killer for them as my fave away trip used to be upton park and they prided themselves on being close to the pitch and making it an intimidating atmosphere. Villa had a great atmosphere for the PSG game....
You're simply not gona get that in a stadium that was designed for Athletics.

I love Moyes but I really want to see him focus on the plan for next season now.
We have a great opportunity to see if:

Jake can play at CB
Alcaraz can be effective in the 10
Chermiti can be useful
Tim can be relied on in CM

So it would be very frustrating to see Keane, Broja, Dom or Doucs starting any more matches.

Give me a break. They have smaller budgets than both, an awful stadium and rudimentary training facilities. They are, at best, the fourth biggest team in their region.

I take it you didn’t do much deep research on the topic?

Last 5 years net transfer spend - Aston Villa £160m, West Ham £272m. Ground capacity Aston Villa 43,000 , West Ham 62,500. West Ham should be qualifying for the Champions League or getting close. They're based in London and pay nothing for their stadium, so have way more money to spend on transfers and wages than most clubs. They've just not bought very well and their managers haven't been good enough.

I have not read many contributions on this site about Moyes but I think its a very big new season for himself. We are led to believe there is a fair bit of money to spend this year and he needs to buy good players. I think a lot will depend on who he buys as to how safe his own job is, buy poor players and his future is in the balance.

That net spend was still only 7th highest in that timeframe - above Liverpool, who obviously started with a massively superior squad.

Their wage bill (a much better indicator) was about 8th-10th highest in that period. (Which began with them as the 16th best side)

So nothing whatsoever to suggest they ‘should’ be in the top 4.

Moyes at west ham
2019. Came in when 17th. 1 point above relegation.
2020/21. Finished 6th. Europa league.
2021/22 finished 7th. Europa league
2022/23 won European trophy.

You're a tough audience lol

Brighton are Europes highest net spenders this season and are nowhere near CL. Chelsea are 800m in the hole and not been in it for 3 years.
If only football was that simple.

Playing at West Ham when you’re going for a throw in or corner just sounds like a muffled roar. An opposing player at BMD will have no doubt of hearing all the explicit encouragement we’ll be feeding them 😂.

On what basis though? Did you pick out Cahill and fellaini as being as good as they were for us there before we signed them? I’m pretty sure the answer is no, so how can you really have any idea whether there are equivalents now?

As an aside, fellaini did cost ‘money’. He’d be the equivalent of us signing someone for about £40 million now.
Value means quality. I'm not speaking price. Fellaino WAS value for the money. Cahill was VALUE for the money. And cool beans Mr. Contrarian. Have a good day.

But Doucore breaking up every attack is pivotal to our success. And he can defend... kind of

There’s nothing contrarian about it. The ‘Moyes was no good with money’ argument gets put forward all the time and it annoys me because everyone always changes the parameters of what ‘money’ was so you get people saying Beattie was evidence of him not being good with money and Baines was evidence of him being great at finding bargains, despite them costing the same amount.

What you're now saying you meant makes literally no sense at all. If you mean value relative to their performance for Everton then how can you possibly have any idea whether that will turn out to be the case? By that logic we could sign someone for £100m but if they turn out to be amazing for us and then we sell them for £120m they were a ‘value pick’, so you’re effectively saying it’s not possible for us to sign someone who does well for us. So I don’t think that really is what you meant is it Mr No-courage-in-your-convictions.

Now that we’re safe I’m genuinely looking forward to whatever press releases are sent out on Moyes’ first BMD visit.
Everton Football Club is delighted to announce that David Moyes will be in attendance at Everton Stadium for the first time as special guest of Dan Friedkin to cheer on the Toffees in their first game of the new Premier League season under new manager Diego Simeone.

“It’ll be a pleasure to visit this new world-class facility”, said Moyes, who steered the club to safety in his second stint at the club. “I’m really keen to see how they have replaced the glass ceiling that I thought we were putting in last season.”

Dan Friedkin added: “We’re delighted David will be in attendance so we can immerse ourselves in British culture by doing our best Jim Bowen impression: “Here’s what you could have won.” David’s former player at West Ham, Jarrod, always spoke well of his dad.”

Can’t beat a bit if bull*#%*!
