David Moyes thinks Fellaini could become Cahill's long term replacement in the hole.

When Cahill was in the team the style of play was there to suit his ability. Now with moving Fellaini up top our style recently has changed as we struggle to break teams down, we are now playing the long ball more often to take advantage of his height, I would like to see him moved back into the middle and play either Osman or Pienaar behind Jelavic or Anichebe.

(even though he did none of that at all against Southampton unfortunately) on the halfway line. So Felli was both behind and ahead of Osman depending on the phase of play.

Think it's hard on a playmaker having to conted with hoofs 9/10 times out of defence. We've looked ace when both Jags and Distin try to get the ball to Gibson or Osman and go from there. Longballs to Jelavic/Felli and no movement means we're found out every single time. We got lucky in the first half that they missed so many chances and Howard had a great game so I think the team were a bit fresher after an earful from Moyes. But still the hoofs continued more often than not.

This is the key to our game, even when under just a little bit of pressure both Distin and Jags will hoof, leading to a 50/50 header at best, which means our midfield will just drift forwards and then back again as the grock teams hoof it back, doing plenty of nothing. Thought Nev had a poor game as well, and these days he looks entirely too slow even when working as a outer shield. He ends up giving away to many soft free kicks that against teams like Norwich/Bolton/Southhampton are likely to cause as problems as we have trouble dealing w long balls into our area.

I'm almost sick of him behind the striker. We are so one dimensional and predictable. He should start in midfield then go forward later if we need to change things. Put naismith behind jelavic and hope that it gets them two into some form as well.

No, because i dont think he should be starting games next to Osman. Needs to be next to Gibson, Hitz, or dare i say it, Neville.

Perhaps after today's performance he shouldn't be starting at all. When was the last time he played well? Spearing was giving him the run around. World class midfielders should not struggle against Leeds and Bolton. He cannot play holding mid well, we looked better when he was pushed up behind the striker but then the better teams can defend against that too easily. Look at the results this season when Fellaini didn't play, on form Anichebe deserves to be in the side ahead of him. His goals have even dried up too, time to try someone new.

Yeah. Not like he did it for three years or anything.

In between a holding midfielder and an attacking midfielder.

Arteta, Neville, Gibson, Rodwell or whoever would drop deep and play the ball out and Fellaini would run around in front of them chasing the ball.

Apparently Moyes disagrees, as he was the one who said he played as a boss defensive midfielder for us for ages.
