Don't know mate.

Just speculating here: maybe because his transfer to Lille in January didn't fall through? Maybe he's willing to sign now as a form of compromise because Standard isn't exactly a wealthy club so a transfer is impossible; so he gets loaned out to Standard and in return sign a prolongation so that he isn't able to leave on a free in the summer?
