Earlier today , our very own Dr. K(arl) ulture , the Antipodean Melvyn Bragg , McB , slighted my cultural intake , after my having described his list of points of interest , as , " scatty . " .
Now , not being the brightest stars in the sky as a Nation , re; Academia , per se , it is no great surprise that my terminolgy was mis-construed by our stripey jumper-ed , swag-bag carrying cousin .
It was HE , not the subject matter , whom I deemed , " scaty " , and to that end , the extent of my recent cultural influences generally ; I have just watched a decent German Language film , Das Wunder von Bern .
The reason it is relatively pertinent on a football forum , is that the subject mater is the 1954 W/C win - coming of course in the wake of the War loss , Partition , etc . A feel good footy film . A thing most rare . What's more , it was half decent .
I don't watch loads of German films , but there are some crackers . Lives of Others is as good a film that I've seen in any language . Also Godbye Lenin .
Also , I realise that cetain folk - Dutch - may have pre-existing aversions to all things German , but as it's me second language , I'm trying to keep my Cultural - ( L.C.A.B. grasps vainly for original point , .. ) , hand in .

I enjoyed it , anyway .

Here's me giving it the Big-One , Culturally , as it were , yet I failed to realise that today is the Memorial for German Goalkeeper , Robert Enke .
This film concerns the German Natoinal Football Team , and a diluted sort of George Best figure - Helmut Rahn - at the centre of it .
That I happened to watch it today , is just plain weird .
R.I.P.

Good film. Good traditional morale stuff with a footbally outside.:P

I speak a fair bit of German, got a GCSE in it, but it's getting a bit rusty now. May try and improve it a bit in the future.

Although I did have the subtitles on.

Well done , kid .
Keep the subtitles on , by all means . Your language will improve if you do it often enough though . Plus , HEARING things is a better learning aid than SEEING . FACT . You can make up mad songs , rhyme them , compare / contrast with English words , etc .
Hours of fun !!!

Well in , B.L.S.
Bit a Cow-cha .

Bis nacher , mein Junge .
