Sat in midfield and received the ball from others and played simple balls all game. Terrible foul (not a challenge) to hack down Long after a Mori error. Zero willingness to put in any tackles and zero energy.

17 year old Tom Davies replaced him just after 80mins and our midfield looked alot better with more energy, better passing etc and he made one great tackle and another where he played the ball out of danger.

Totally showed up Gibsons performance in the space of 10 mins.

Sadly you have the Gibson "fans" who think hes "ace" as he can pass the ball forwards who have been stuck on poor midfield play for so long...probably end up in the championship or league one next season.
So much deadwood to clear...

That 'tackle' on Long was so boss.

It wasnt really though was it?

It was an attempt by him to injure a fellow professsional. He should have been red carded.

He could have fouled him but made the choice of a dirty lunge. No place for that at all.

You "go to the actual games".

That old chestnut...along with the "computer games" comment.

Sounds like youre not able to take on anyones opinion if they arent able to make the game due to living in another country and throw out the "computer games" commenr to "support" your argument.

I suggest that the internet isnt for you.

My argument is that you are obsessed by young players and as such cannot give an objective view of Gibson's performance.

My evidence is what I saw with my own eyes yesterday - Gibson was better than most of our other outfield players. He won headers, tracked back, put himself in position to receive the ball and tried to be positive without giving it away. He also kept talking to his team mates and when needed, the ref.

You ignore all that, focus on a foul that was necessary and that most experienced players would make and try to make out that a youth player who had a good 10 minute cameo is the next Zidane, whilst ignoring the fact that said youth player is up against players who have spent 80 minutes running around and that once he came on and that Besic had changed to a deeper position (his more natural position) once Barkley had come on.

Where you live has nothing to do with your lack of understanding of the game, nor did I claim that it did.

Our best player in the first half comfortably and one of the better players for the time he was on the pitch. I'm usually a fan of his but Besic was dire yesterday. What did he do? Mirallas did nothing, Deulofeu was an embarrassment yet again and the same goes for Kone. I reckon Gibbo looks fitter than Deulofeu lol.

I note his performance was recognised on MOTD with a view to his inclusion in the national side.

What a pathetic post "youre obsessed with young players".

What relevance is that to this supposed "vintage" performance from Gibson yesterday? ZERO.

Im sure Bayern scouts have been watching him ready to pounce when hes out of contract this summer.

I "go to the actual game" is what you wrote, dont try and slime your way out of that. Just highlights the type of person you are noted in your posts....

I dislike Gibson for his off-field antics to be honest, that and he was so unlucky with injuries he never really became a force for us.

This being said, he was OK yesterday. Could have imposed himself on the game a bit more, and I would like to see some of those 40-60 yard diagonals just going straight to Lukaku.

It's laughable that you are trying to dismiss your obsession with younger players.

Find where I claim it was a vintage performance; that Bayern are after him. You won't because I said neither of those things.

He was one of the better players in blue yesterday. I've not resorted to hyperbole over his performance, because all it was was a decent individual performance in an insipid team showing. Compare that with your own assessment of his game and see who uses the more extreme description.

I do go to the actual home games, and do watch the away games via the internet. I can assure you you get a very different perspective from being there and will see and hear much more than is ever picked up by the cameras. I hope you will be able to attend a game some day and find out for yourself.

As for what type of a person I am, I am simply one who disagrees with you. You'll find that happens in life. If its too much for you, perhaps the internet isn't for you.

@Zatara

Bayern scouts? What are you on about? He's a back-up central midfielder for 11th placed team in England, we should judge him by adequate standarts.

By no means Gibson was perfect yesterday, but he was one of, if not the best player on the pitch in a blue shirt, and he certainly did a lot better than McCarthy did in most games this season. For example, after he got a yellow for that absolutely necessary foul he actually started being very cautious and made sure that he doesn't get another one. He also was a leader on the pitch yesterday, and pretty much the only one in our team.

And comparing Gibson to James actually makes sense, while comparing him to a 17-yo who's played the total of 10 minutes doesn't.

I find it worrying that Martinez can get away with saying he knows his best team but when he is forced into making changes those changes seem to be improvements, albeit minor improvements.
