100% guaranteed that the contract will have some form of pay as you play clause in it. So if that's the case what's the harm in giving him an extension?
He'll be costing us a few quid in medical bills.

Why do we insist on giving new contracts out to fringe players constantly?! It makes no business sense to offer a man who has played so few games in the past 3 seasons another deal! At best he deserves a 1 year rolling contract with various clauses in with regards to game time.
Quality is no good if always unfit to play!Chances are he would leave if thats' all we offered him and I doubt we will get a midfielder anywhere near his quality without spending big. If he can stay fit he's should be playing at his peak.
Leave to who? At best he'd get picked up by someone like Sunderland. We're not talking about Xavi here either. Also he can never stay fit, it has been the trend of his career so your last point doesn't matter.Chances are he would leave if thats' all we offered him and I doubt we will get a midfielder anywhere near his quality without spending big. I agree about the pay as you play deal anything else and we are throwing money away we don't have.I'd keep him on a pay per play contract, if he would sign that sort of deal though I don't know. When he's fit, he is a good footballer. In terms of value for money over the course of his time here though I don't really think he could be classed as good value for money. Obviously we don't have the financial clout to carry many luxury players. I think we have to many of those already in McGeady and Kone, by luxury players I mean players we keep around even though their contribution is minimal. I think the money we spend on his wages could be put to better use. We gave it a go, it hasn't worked out how we would have hoped. Move him on I say, we have an abundance of midfielders and over the course of a season he contributes the least purely to his lack of time on the field
