So it seems as if Gibson is now back in the 'long-term' injury group going by yesterday's press conference and today's injury update video. No further information available as to time out or what has happened. Bit strange really, maybe linked to recent events re a certain departure, who knows?
Gibson hasn't been seen since 14th November against Scotland.
14th November - Comes off against Scotland in the 68th minute. Doesn't appear to be injured.
15th November - Withdraws from squad due to a 'minor knock to knee'.
18th November - Martinez, “Darron Gibson played against Scotland and got a bit of soreness in his knee. He had a year-long lay-off with his ligaments, so we need to be cautious. But I’m very confident he will be available to train very soon.”
20th November - Martinez says he hasn't trained yet but is part of a group of 7 players who will be 'assessed for the weekend'.
26/28th November - Ruled out of both games, part of the longer term, 'progressing well' group.
2nd December - Martinez, “Darron has had a very good reaction to his treatment and is feeling a lot more free. He won’t be involved against Hull – it’s a bit too early – but I don’t expect him to be out for too long. We will reassess him at the end of the week.”
5th December - Martinez, “We’re still very similar to where we were on Wednesday. I doubt that Steven Naismith, James McCarthy and Darron Gibson will be fit for the weekend."
12th December - Martinez, "We've got four players who we are assessing for Monday. They are James McCarthy, Steven Naismith, John Stones and Darron Gibson. Those are the four names we are keeping an eye on to see if they are available for Monday or not. All four are in different situations but I feel that all four have an opportunity to be involved. So it is good news."
18th December - But central midfielder Gibson and McCarthy were reported to be “both doing well” and the Blues boss revealed that they were “both 50-50 for Southampton.”
24th December - "Darron Gibson is progressing really well and I wouldn’t be surprised if he is involved in the next two weeks, so we are getting really close.”
30th December - “Darron Gibson is still coming back from soreness in his knee and will miss Thursday."
5/6th January - Long-term injury group / unavailable.
Also, Gibbo's missus tweeted on the 28th December that Gibson would be 'back this week'. It just appears as though we don't have a clue what is actually the prognosis. He's been training around the first team since April and did pre-season. Was he brought back too soon? It's got to the point where this minor knock / soreness appears to be a lot more serious than initially thought given that he was apparently on the verge of joining the squad for games and is now back to long-term injury/unavailable/no news status.
Also the Osman injury news is even more damning and certainly looks like a major misjudgement.
18th December -
Leon Osman, however, remains a “real doubt” for Saturday but Martinez added that the midfielder was “progressing well” from a long-standing foot problem and he will be assessed day by day.
Today Martinez has now said he'll be out for 10-12 weeks!
Bizarre goings on with regards to injuries and the information released.
