Not sure what is controversial about saying he's the best passer of a ball at the club, because he... well, is.

The problem with him was never really his talent; it was actually getting that talent on the pitch. Whenever he had a run of 10-15 games he'd generally look one of our best players, but that happened once every two years, so it didn't matter.

He isn't, Baines is.

Nah. Gibson has the likes of this in his locker.

In terms of pure ability, Gibson is actually fantastic. It's easy to dismiss him because he never plays, but if Messi never played he'd still be in theory very good at what he does, even if it never actually happened.

Sorry just had to pause for laughing at Tim Howard for both of those goals.

Gibson could do that in isolation yeah, no question, but we've seen it much more consistently over the years from Baines, for a good 3/4 years he was our most creative player from left back! I get what you're saying though, if Gibson had played as many games as Baines then who knows. But he's shown no intention of getting himself fit for the first team so he can swivel as far as I'm concerned.

Big Daz Gibbo. Sticking it to the haters and trolls with a belter-pass average of 1 every 2.5 seasons.

Suck on that one, Messi.

Respect Gibson, for at least being a good little player when he was actually fit. As people have said, his passing range was excellent, and I think we all saw that the lad had natural ability, unfortunately, he was made out of glass, and was always injured.

It's easy to remember the bad memories with a player like Gibson, but he was a standout player in the first season he was here. He didn't ask to sign that 2-year deal, and credit to the club for sticking with him.

I'm more excited that for the first time in forever, we're seeing the deadwood, but so is the manager. Koeman has seen Cleverley, Oviedo, Niasse, Kone and Gibson aren't up to the standard he wants, and he's sent them packing. That's refreshing, and exciting. If anyone can't see what Koeman is trying to achieve here after January, well I don't know what else he needs to go.

Full thanks to Gibson and Oviedo for being excellent servants, and at times, good, handy players. Wish them nothing but the best.

Anyone know if there's a fee for Gibbo and Oviedo? Looking at a Sunderland forum and they're not doing cartwheels, reckon they'll need to sign a couple more physio's as well.

Dave, you cannot be serious about a.Gibson being the best passer of the ball and b.his going being lamentable??

He's wasted whatever talent he had and the sooner is he out of Everyon and off the salary sheet the better for all concerned.

Please don't come back with any kind of half-baked reasoning as you'll just look daft... in my opinion.

I'm lamenting the shift in player type, not Gibson in particular (who, btw, was massively under rated when he came here but quickly demonstrated his quality on the ball).

Imo, the Koeman era will be marked by player acquisitions who will be a) costly, b ) athletic, c) not necessarily having a lot of individual ball skills and/or vision. We will be an expensively assembled Palace type club. That will get us a lot of decent-to-good results, but it wont get us a team that will be able to pile up those extra points required when power doesn't find a way through and only guile can do it.
