If hes signed then lets wait and see how he fits in would rather give him a chance in the middle than Neville/Cahill

Everyone wants a striker/creative mid and Im no diff but he may turn out to be a snip at 1-2m

Apologies for the Damon-esque ****ness of that post but....he's not an improvement on them because they are defensive players. Gibson isnt. He's cant do that role.

Its like saying Drenthe is an improvement on Neville as a defensive midfielder....he's clearly not.

Fellaini and Rodwell are improvements on Neville/Heitinga as they play that role. In fact, Heitinga hasnt done much wrong as a DM when played there this season.

But felli is our defensive midfielder. We don need 2 so gibson making some forward passes IS an improvement on either neville or heitinga

In that case Osman and Rodwell are both better. So Gibson's only going to be of (slight) use when they're both injured.

Also, I may be alone here, but I think Heitinga's not too bad going forward. He can pick out a killer pass on occasion and is comfortable on the ball. It's probably the Ajax academy training!

He's definitly not a creative play maker like we need but he does seem to have a bit of drive about him to get from midfield into good attacking positions.

Which wil probably get coached out of him by Moyes to be replaced with defensive discipline but he could add something to the team we've been missing.

Id have rodwell or osman in there myself but the fact of the matter is neville, heitinga and cahill have had to play in our centre mid this year and none of them are central midfielders.

Having a central midfielder in our squad when needed instead of them is an improvement to the squad

Yes, as I said. But not the team.

If we had the kind of money normal teams had then I'd have no problem with spending a few mil on a squad filler. But we do not. This will be the first time we've made a permanent, cash signing in 2 1/2 years. I don't think it's a good idea to be spending what little money we may have on a position of low priority. At least compared to the current crisis we have in terms of the striker and playmaker roles; where, even with a fully fit squad, we lack anyone suitable for the task.

i cannot believe the negativity on here , my opinion maybe not matter ,the guy has not played regular football for man utd this was much the case for neville for periods of his man utd carrier lets see what happens do people think that moyes cannot see a bargain any more its not the first time he has found a bargain is it , he cannoy be any worse than cahill,or bily in the midfield this seaon can he really bily 9 mill, gibson 1 mill , im not saying he is going to be great eather just saying if hes signed for everton lets get behind him give him a cnance

He's never really had a proper run in Utd's side so we cant really judge him. I remember years ago he was going to be the next big thing to come through at Man U but it obviously hasnt worked out for one reason or another. He must be rated by Fergie and have ability to have been at Man U so long. A few Man U fans I know think the sale has a lot to do with his strained relationship with Fergie and him not signing a new deal (which runs out in August apparently) rather than his lack of talent. Im willing to wait before I judge him.
