Darren Bent

He played great tonight, but they will sell him, why would they keep their 3rd striker as their main striker? They will bring in new strikers, and get rid of bent. He wants to come to us, we just need to make the offer...

They won't be selling him anytime soon, if we were in for him he would have been rested tonight, like AJ was against Preston.
They have just lost Keane and will certainly not be selling a striker until they buy another- Probably Arshavin.

Like who?

A realistic option who've been linked with?

scott mcdonald from celtic will do aj's job but actually score. he is an out and out striker. we have our bull striker in yak (excuse the pun) so we need a poacher. he'll also cost a lot less. celtic bought him for 750k so a little earner for them would be great business.

if we do go in for bent then i think 6-7m is all we should pay for a fellow that has not really set the world on fire. this strikes me as another beattie/aj transaction.

This isn't the 90s mate, if you want a proven player you have to pay the money. 6-7 million gets you a half decent player, Bent is more than a half decent player. He scores goals, he's got a better all round game than AJ and he's able to play upfront on his own or in a pairing.

His record over the past 5 years is excellent. 8 goals in 14 starts last season, 15 goals for Charlton the season before and 22 the season before that. His record is excellent and he's easily worth 8-12 million, if AJ is Bent is.

Scott McDonald is very average, he scores goals in the Scottish League yes but I doubt he has the attributes to play over here. I doubt Celtic will let him go either.

I'd rather have a proven striker like Bent.

I think if we sign Moutinho and Topal we can forget about a big name striker, them two will cost way over £20m together, a large chunk of what I imagine we have.
Personally I am of the belief that if we stick with 451 we already have a second choice striker- Vaughan. Risky yes, given his injury record but we have all seen what he is capable of- he faces the biggest season of his career, he has to get it together this season for the sake of his proffesional future. Therefore I wouldn't be suprised for a fairly low key striker to come in, in the £5m bracket. Someone like Ebanks Blake, McDonald or even Nugent- maybe.
I think all this talk of big money signings upfront is merely out of hope, Id be extremely suprised to see a big name come in, esp given our perseverance with 451. The Johnson money will go towards strengthening midfield foremost.

hear what your're saying but i think we are probably coming at it from different angles. the bluerise post just before mine is sort of where i'm working from as well. i'd rather we bulk up the midfield with 2 or 3 quality players and spend no more than 5 or 6m on a decent striker. given the choice of 1 x bent or 2 x arteta's (you know what i mean) then i'd take the latter.

Bent would be a great player for us.

Just seen his interview on SSN. By the sounds of things, he's going no were. Said he want to step up an prove himself at spurs. Think we can rule this one out now.

Also with Keana going and Berbatov still a possible departure we would have to equal what they paid for him to have a sniff. And that is not going to happen.

No i doubt it gaz, Im sure the gaffer has someone lined up.

No way he'd let Aj go without a replacment ready to come in.

I completely agree buddy, I was just saying that I believe any type of Darren Bent deal we can assume is dead in the water. Our sights lie somewhere else. I don't know where, but, I have unquestionable faith in the gaffer.
