he's 8 weeks old. I have a back lawn but I'm training him to use pads as we both work 12hr+ shifts occasionally through the week/weekends/nights, unless I get a dog flap placed in the back door.
Yeah he's still young so pads are a good idea. When he can go out on his own, get him used to one patch, hold him in position if you have to and he'll soon get the hang of it. With being young, he'll have a weak bladder but as he gets older he'll be able to go hours and hours without a pee.
Apologies if you've had dogs and know all this mate.

No apologies needed! I've never had a dog before. I've already got him using the pads, bar a few accidents per day. Sleeps a helluva lot. Really nice temperament though!

Yeah the sleeping is normal mate. Try get him off the pads as soon as possible. If he has any accidents, don't shout at him too much, just let him know he's done wrong and put him straight out on his patch.
A good way is to take him to his patch and keep him there until he pees. Hold him there and keep moving him back every time he moves. You need patience but once he's done it..really go over the top with the praise and give him a treat. He'll soon realise what he's doing is right.
