Really hope he's legit as that's a huge improvement on any kind of stage racing performance he's ever put in.

Super impressive but yeah, I'm sceptical. He's been smashing it on the front for the first week. Leading out his teammates for sprints even. Never seen him TT like that yesterday, and now this. Throw in the fact hes a one day specialist having hoovered up most the classics in the spring.

Me too. But Ineos look beatable. Even if Alaphilippe doesn't last the course, we have a race on our hands for the first time in years.

PS: Movistarlol

Ineos picked a bit of a funny team in a way as they have a lot of all rounders like Kwia, Moscon and van Baarle, who are okay at climbing but not ones you'd expect at the sharp end of things. With Poels on a bad day they didn't really have much left by the top. Still surprised that Thomas was shed, but not as surprised as seeing Alaphilippe still there and giving it digs at the top.

Still a way to go of course, but it's a heck of an improvement from him. A load of blokes with big climbing pedigree dropped from a group he seemed relatively okay in.

Looking for a bit of advice from the more knowledgeable in here tbh....

Before I start I hold my hand up to knowing next to nothing about cycling but enjoy watching the Tour of France, particularly the mountain stages & decided to 'invest' a cheeky fiver on a few interest bets. I asked a couple of mates for some ideas & ended up backing 4 or 5 riders (most of which have been terrible bets tbh).

I have however backed Alaphillipe @125-1 (only 50p each way!!), just checked on what I'd get if I were to cash out & the offer is about £35. Is he likely to run out of gas or should I stick? Thought Pinot & Bernal looked strong today.

Depends on whether you think he's on bread and water or something slightly stronger

Don’t know much about betting strategy , but isn’t it risking £35 in the hand for a £62.5 win ? Think on those odds I’d take the £35 , on a 50/50 chance that Alaphillipe will blow up on one of four tough stages still to come. Mind you I’m also happy to admit I haven’t got a clue if he’ll last or not!

It's about a £78 win if he does it for you.
I'll give you £35 for the bet if you want ?

Everyone has focused on Thomas, but Adam Yates had a real stinker yesterday, following a pretty poor time trial as well. He doesn't seem to have pushed on at all since his 4th a few years ago. I'm not convinced that Simon will add to his Vuelta either. They both seem vulnerable to having really bad days and shifting huge amounts of time.

Well Simon popped up again whilst Adam lost 20 minutes. Funny game.
