Cycling thread

Milan San-Remo tomorrow (men), and it has also been relaunched for the women, who will race Genoa San Remo (156k).

Tune in if you want to see the only race of the season where Pog is not the clear favourite, and the most tactical 30 minutes in world cycling at the denouement. UAE made an absolute shambles of the Cipressa last year, but even with clockwork coordination it is not clear if this can make the difference they are looking for.

Last year's winner Philpsen had a heavy crash this week but will start. Just a superbly strong rider, albeit not the most popular one. Getting over the Poggio in G1 after Pogacar laid down two tarmac-melting attacks was Sean Kelly-esque, probably the only top tier sprinter in the world who can ride like that. I don't think MvdP will be so team-spirited this time around, though.

What a race - best MSR in a long while. Massive ride from Ganna to come back like that, rode with incredible self-belief.

vdP seems to have matured into an exceptional tactician, as if he needed any more talents. Brilliant tactical racer these past few years.

Pog can still win this one!

Great ride by Ganna, wanted him to win at the end, but MvdP is so good. My tip Pidcock disappeared, did he get stuck behind the crash at the start of Cipressa?

I really hope Pog goes to Paris Roubaix as he keeps teasing about it. He'd be a big underdog, too light still perhaps, but he lights a bonfire in every race he starts.

Why?

He was able to match Pog and Vdp last year and he's in better form this year.
He's a better descender than either of them, and that's massively important in MSr.

The fact that he was nowhere to be seen in the last 20 mins made me suspect he'd had a mishap.
He was behind the crash I believe - but that's on him if he's going into the Cipressa that far back. vdP hit the climb second wheel. I guess it was reasonable to expect the race to hang together over the climb, as that's what always happens, just not this year. Shame as he is on v good form and the Poggio descent is right up his alley - he flayed it last year.

Bruges de Panne tomorrow - sprinter's classic, and E3 at the weekend which should be great. Pog is racing it as he did two years back when he won Flanders.

Sad to see Arnaud De Lie struggling again last week - two classics seasons in a row very disrupted by illness or bad form is starting to feel a bit DCL. Amazing talent in there but he needs to settle down and find some consistency.

Absolute disasterclass there today from Visma - one for the history books. 100% on Wout from the looks of things - said he cramped up but he should win that sprint 100 times out of 100.

Don't really think he has a shot at RVV anyhow - MvdP and Pog just way too good on that parcours. Was hoping he'd be in the mix for Roubaix, but that will have been a mental set-back.

Pedersen looking in brutal strong form - missed the break today but is riding super strong right now.

WvA seems to be a long way from Pog and MvdP these days.
