Looked a brutal crash. Some tough sods for sure. See Simon Yates was involved in it and yet still recovered to finish 8th on the stage. I was coming down off the Giau on Sunday and there was a girl stopped by the side with some horrid looking road rash. Guess she'd had a tumble. 10 minutes later as we went up the Falzarego she was riding by everyone. Had to symbolically doff my cap. Made of tough stuff are cyclists.

Great coverage on SBS Australia, Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwin, ace commentators. record it over night, then 5hr binge ( ffw ads ) in the morning
Post race the Aussie summery guy whose name escapes me came up with a valid point. They can't stop the race every time there's a crash, you either get back on and take the pain or quit.

A 3 week promo for the French tourist board, deffo on the bucket list

cancellara is definatly out with a broken back! L3/L4 vertibrae are shot in his right side. did well to finish the awkward uphill stage to be fair. how gutting must it be, getting caught out with the yellow jersey on too

He's had a rotten year as his classics campaign was ruined by a crash too. It's a shame as both he and Boonen have had a year to forget, and both are of an age where you want to cherish all the time they have left.

Big, big day for Froome to get through, I just can't see him beinggoo on the cobbles, Thomas will be massive for him today.

You have to think Stannard, Rowe and to a lesser extent Thomas were all in the team with this stage in mind.

Definitely, but I am not convinced by Stannards form right now, even Cavendish was dropping him at the Nationals last week so Thomas might be the main man today. Rain isn't forecast until the very end which could be a big bonus for Froome, Quintana and Contador

Can't wait for a few years when froome gets found out for doping, i know so many people who swore blind Armstrong was doping for years yet now turn a blind eye to froome because patriotism kicks in despite the same signs clearly being there.

I don't think Stannard is in great form either, but he doesn't have to be in Paris Roubaix winning form, he just has to be better than Froome, which you'd imagine he would be quite comfortably. It will be interesting to see if any of the favourites teams give it some welly or play it safer. You'd imagine Astana and Nibali would try something given that they have some time to claw back and Nibali did well on the cobbles last year.

Wouldn't stake my life on anyone being clean, but what are those signs?
