When the Amero is introduced, along with the Euro that has already been rolled out, I'd say pretty much half the world will be using just 2 different types of money....

I recieved a letter from my bank saying they are phasing out usage of Cheques as well.

Carrying bits of paper and metal is so 20th century.

I was actually quite the numismatic when I was wee. I have money from all over the world, most of which doesn't exist anymore. I wonder if one day it might be worth more than it's face value... probably not, stupid pasetas, rubles whatever...

I also accept cheques.
for me to accept card payments I would have to fork out around £60 per month for a portable card machine, and also pay a % of every transaction with a minimum fee of about £2, the only way I could possibly do this is to pass the cost on to the customer, which would equate on an average month to between £6 and £10 each, will customers want to pay that for not giving me cash or a cheque ? I think not. Plus the company running the card machine will keep the money for a while before then paying it to my account and then the bank will need a week to clear the payment, probably taking around 3-4 weeks from payment to me receiving it.

But then hey, the banks have to find their bonuses from somewhere.

All paper money(fiat currency) is doomed to failure it is intrinsically worthless. The big question is how long Governments can keep the music going with the printing presses. Perhaps in my lifetime we could see Weimar republic type hyper-inflation.

Is this Amero thing actually happening then? I remember reading on conspiracy websites years ago re. the new world order undermining their economy in order to implement this

The conspiracy theorists have been on about the Amero for a long time. The US has to prepare for a possibility of either a currency debasement to another value medium or a massive devaluation of the existing dollar. The key is watching the US treasuries if they buck the 4% line watchout the process will be in it's final stanza. The big Banks will still try to delay the inevitable with their credit swaps to keep the masses happy untill the next administration takes the helm. California & Illinois are basically in deep doo doo.

"Rae, I have a tsipouro on the table and your mother loves me, where is the problem?"
