The teams who get knocked out of the Champions league go into the Europa league, what will probably happen is when those teams then get knocked out of the Europa league they'll then drop down into this new format.

I was thinking that because there are 8 champions league teams that drop out after the group stages they might make the CWC set up so that only the 8 group winners qualify for the knock out and they face off against the 8 teams knocked out from the champions league. I think that would make 3 strong last 16 knock out competitions

If they want to make it fair.

You exclude the top 5 nations from having teams in it.
Leaving a far stronger Europa League. That's Spain, England, Italy, France, Germany. For 15. Then you let the next best, Portugal, Belgium, Russia, Ukraine and Turkey have two teams. That's 25. Austria, Netherlands, Denmark, Greece, Switzerland, Croatia and Czech Republic (the teams ranked 11-17) all get a place to make 32. If you had to do qualifying, then you'd allow 16 Automatic. (2 from top 6, 1 from 7-10) and allow for a further 16 teams to be allowed in.

The Europa League then becomes a really strong second tier competition. The "CWC", has the best from the smaller leagues, but teams from Greece etc.

Then you've got a really competitive CL, Europa and Third Tier. If you base it that Portugal, Belgium, Russia, Turkey all got their third best get a place, and so on. You'd have 2 rounds of qualifiers, and be in like that.

BBC have now reported that the third competition will be "rubber stamped" at a meeting in Dublin early in December

A new third European competition with 32 teams will be rubber-stamped at a Uefa meeting in Dublin early next month.

So with the Champions League, Europa League and the new third contest, a total of 96 teams will compete once pre-qualifying is completed.

Cerefin says it will be the "beginning of wider European competition", and that clubs and national associations "appreciate it".

Referencing the likes of Celtic, Porto, Benfica, Ajax and Anderlecht, Agnelli added: "It will be our duty to safeguard the great heritages of European football but on the other side I think we are very well aware that we have to safeguard markets, we have to think about upcoming markets.

"We have to think about Poland. We have to think about [countries like] Turkey, we have to think about Russia. Fans can rest assured that if we put our hands to making a new product it's because we want to make sure that fans across Europe engage."

To me it sounds like this is deigned to give the clubs mentioned (Celtic, Porto, Benfica, Ajax and Anderlecht), those that are Historically important to uefa, a chance to win something in Europe again.

The idea as it always is seems to be make a third cup to put more of the small countries teams in and open up more CL spots for "big" clubs so we can make those in charge more money. Fantastic. Although in this case I do kind of like it as a restructuring of the Europa is desperately needed.

you could have a large number of teams in Europa, just make it straight knockout and get rid of the c-league flunkies.

At the very least the 32 team knockout starting the same week as the CL round of 16 has to go. Teams who win round of 32 matches have to play 4 games in 5 weeks while CL sides play 2. It's a ridiculous disadvantage.

The Europa League needs massively cutting down. Ridiculous amount of teams in that.

I´d much prefer a straight knockout in both with half the amount of games but of course it all comes down to money.
