Indeed, but I think that is half the problem with the Brand stuff - as you say, it was obvious what he was so for him to be "exposed" now does raise the question of why now.

For Galloway, Brand and the rest of course the very act of being alleged to have done something is required in order to grift off - if they aren't trying to cancel you, you don't have anything to offer the people who fund their lifestyles.

For everyone else though people should genuinely be more suspicious of how these stories are formed because of the obvious potential for them to be misused and/or monetized. The exposure of Weinstein happened in the right way, with initial press reporting leading to criminal convictions but there are several cases since where the exposure seems to involve no legal process against the suspect whatsoever. What happened to Noel Clarke for example deserves close attention.

The current cult of the grift is something very different for me, a means to blame 'something' for the failures in easily led peoples lives. undercover government, trans people, illegal aliens, abortion clinics etc.

galloway is something far more devious. I'm not sure there is a label yet that accurately does for him.
 
Also, re brand, the investigators got their ducks in a row before going public, none of this tainted by accusation stuff that let weinstein off for historic offences, brand got hauled over the coals for all they could find on him, it's why it took the time it did. It also very handily coincided with the timing where the bigger tv companies had little interest in him left for fronting their crud. Conspicuous timing perhaps.
