Current Affairs Culture wars & The rise of grifting

Current events. As much info as you can get to be able to judge as best you can. It's often rather poor, but sometimes it can kick ass. And just when you thought you couldn't revere someone any more, it turns out Alibhai-Brown gave back her honour some years ago. Principled stand that.

Had a trip down a very strange rabbit hole this morning. I went to a place I didn’t know existed.

For some reason, a post by a FB “friend” appeared on my feed. It was on a De-fund the BBC thread.

Out of interest and for educational purposes, I perused their pontifications.

Wow, they are a full on crazy cult. It would also appear that certain common traits consistently reappear in their angry posts. These being union jacks, illegal immigrants, the marxist, communist BBC, Nigel Farage (good) Lee Anderson (even better) Gary Lineker (Beelzebub level of evil) and small boats (Immediate blood-pressure tablet triggers)

Interspersed with the angry diatribe, there were many advisory posts, clearly from the squadron leaders and rear admirals of this militant movement, advising as to how communications from TV Licence authorities should be rebuffed.

In amongst the bile and barely coherent conspiracy theories, there were some unintended gems of humour. There was one guy asking if it would be ok if he tuned in just to watch Happy Valley, as his mother really liked it (if he used VPN or maybe a firestick) and another who wanted guidance as to how he could partake in some six nations rugby viewing, if the England game was only on BBC.

There was some deep discussion as to whether viewing such programmes on catch up, via BBC Iplayer might still be legal and in conformance to the group’s aims, philosophy and ideology.

The rugby chap didn’t buy into this approach at all, he was at pains to explain that the whole point was watching the games live. (Clearly not wanting the BBC de-funded just yet)

There are obviously some Farage / Anderson type masters of manipulation, cynically coordinating and orchestrating the angry brigade. What I think shocked me more, was the willingness of the foot soldiers to have their lunacy and hatred appear for all to see, as if a badge of pride and loyalty, on a public forum.

It’s obvious that the Tory grifters in chief have identified a specific target audience for their current campaign of aggro and confrontational chaos.

Perhaps naively, I hadn’t appreciated how normalised and seductive their poisonous outpourings have become.

Scary times.

I must have clicked or read something something once as now my insta search feed is full of Andrew Tate and right wing videos. Extremely aggressive algorithms despite the majority of things I read and social groups being left wing.
BBC- Communist lol
