just sods law now. agree striker deal and arsenal change their minds on the basis he might be good so he can't come here. Now a chance a cheap right back unwanted by saints might not happen because the first choice is injured!

What next? Storms stop helicopters flying them over on deadline day?

You could well be right but the manager must prefer him to the younger players you mention.

Koeman has a rep for this sort of thing

Still, you can't have it all I guess

He was right about Gueye, so I'll hold off to see what happens if this lad does come in, but surely Holgate has shown so far that he's good enough to play in the first team? I'm not sure what else Koeman would need to see

....I don't disagree, Mikey, but I guess we'll have to trust he knows what he wants and what he's doing in these transfer deals.

Hope this doesn't happen to be honest

Has an awful whiff of Alcaraz about it. Poor player standing in the way of other players in the team

We're better sticking with our own young players like Holgate and Kenny
If the manager prefer this guy to our youngsters, dont you think its because he's a better player? Better players bring more points, bring success to the club. I dont understand this "just play our youngsters"-logic. If they were good enough for the first team, they would be for the first team. If Koeman wants Cuco, all logic points to our younger RBs not cutting it - and should therefor not be relied upon as backups.

Edit;
That said, I think Holgate has done great there, but i also think RK wants him as a CB.

That point would hold more water if Holgate hadn't already held his own in the first team

Maybe he sees 5 across the back as his preferred formation. If another centreback signing doesn't come off that leaves us with Jags Mori Williams Baines Coleman as first choice. Three of these players seem to be more injury prone now than they once were. Holgate can cover across but Oviedo can only cover LB. With Galloway on loan and Pennington and Browning injured maybe Koeman wants another versatile player to fill in at RB or CB.

Read my edit. Also, in two games, he's responsible for one backwards goal. So, being a youngster, he's done well, but not good enough still.

So he's made one mistake and thus isn't good enough?

Bit OTT that mate if I'm honest

He's young and will make mistakes, but even with that in mind, what has this Martina shown anywhere else to suggest he's a better option?

I really think we need to get away from this idea that the manager always has to be infallible and we must trust him explicitly. We did that with Martinez and it didn't end well

Koeman has thus far had success with the new guys he's brought in, and if Holgate hadn't been playing you could argue that he hasn't impressed in training and thus I'd be more inclined to just trust Koeman's judgment

That hasn't happened though. He's played and played well, even pushing for MOTM last week

In this situation, I think it's fair game to cast a critical eye, especially as this Martina lad would appear to be a bit toss
