Cuco Martina

Why not give that time to one of the younger players then, why spend money on someone whose not gonna provide competition to Coleman just seems a buy to bulk the numbers in column.

Could be loads of reasons. Saints mate always said to me that Koeman wasn't that keen on using young players really, and Holgate aside, last night's selection seems to back this up.

He clearly likes and trusts this Martina guy and it's not exactly loads of cash.

I'd rather a young gun too. But the boss is the boss.

There was a lot of talk that it's Erwin Koeman that likes Martina and is the reason we signed him. A lot of fans questioned the validity of the deal because he's so far from Premier League standard it's slightly worrying. He blocked the path to the first team of one of our younger RBs (just like yours) and was largely frustrating to see in the squad.

Do find it brilliant how you lot were taking your pick out of van Dijk, Forster and Bertrand earlier in the Summer and you've ended up with arguably our two worst players last season.

I find it brilliant you've ended up with some no-Mark as manager and are heading for a relegation fight.

Think you'll find the majority of us weren't massively bothered about that one either. You were handed our manager as well, don't think you "took" him from us.
You weren't bothered that the manager who took you so high in the league left?
Not sure I or others will buy that mate.

I've gone through it before but we've always been a club that prides ourselves on our academy and the development of young players. Koeman cut that off, albeit with a benefit of our highest league finish but our fans/board were never truly in love with Koeman due to it.

Sure you'll see the same thing with the likes of Holgate and Davies.

Aye maybe so, concern i would have though, is IF we bring in quality players then yeah can understand the yunger lads getting less chances, it's a results business after all, but signing basically mediocre backups just because they happen to be a bit more experienced - whilst not being any better is exactly the thing we need to avoid, ortherwsie we may well end up looking back in 2-3 seasons time (or whenever Koeman leaves) and wondering what ever happened to what we have been told repeatedly is the most talented crop of young players we have had in a long long time at the club.

Holgate, Kenny and Davies from the brief cameos they have had so far all look set to be able to play at least the same minutes (and at the same level at least) as the likes of Cleverley, this lad, or the likes of Oviedo etc can do mate. Just sets a bit of a marker about what the future for the younger lads could end up being is all.

Don't be silly. The only reason you'll finish above us is because of the Europa League. I still doubt you will anyway.
