Khodorkovsky is the biggest gangster of them all. He stole huge chunks of the FSUs natural resources via Yukos and with the corrupt Yeltsin's blessing. He was hated by most ordinary Russians as the face of gangster capitalism in the 1990s.

He's got some cheek talking about a mafia set up when he was one of the originators of business + murder in that country.
We aint saying he's a saint Dave, but he is perfectly placed to give insight.

You know Putin is reportedly the richest man in the world, so as gangsters go I'd say he trumps them all.

It weakens any point on him running a mafia operation when the person delivering the accusation was the originator of the model.

I would think so......as I believe the Russians said themselves ‘you shouldn’t threaten a nuclear power’.........

Funny that they supposedly have done then isn't it.
Hahaha, Andrew Neil talking about people having a go at Corbyn......

“I think that’s unfair. I can see where Jezza is coming from. After all, in almost every major foreign policy issue for the past 40 years, he’s unfailingly taken an anti-western line.”

“He’s rarely said anything hostile about the Soviet Union or the Russian Federation that succeeded it.

“He even went on a motorbike holiday to one of its colonies with Diane Abbott – that’s sacrifice for you.

"He’s never mustered his 'stop the war' mates outside the Russian embassy to embarrass those within.

“He’s toiled under the studio lights of Russia Today, even when only three conspiracy nut-jobs and his cat were watching.

“He’s even hired a chief spin doctor who has opined that old Uncle Joe Stalin wasn’t such a bad chap. And the Soviet Union, not such a bad place.

“And yet, still, these damn Russkies give all their ill-gotten gains to the bloody Tories. I mean, I can see why he’s miffed.”
Neil might've had a point if his last couple of sentences hadn't highlighted how messed up the govt gladly taking money from oligarchs is. His digs at Corbyn pale in comparison.

I don't understand why that would hurt Russia?

It’s all about not losing face and having good propaganda. I doubt if England alone pulling out would do a great deal, apart from saving our supporters getting beat up. However, if France and Germany were to pull out also then Putin would have egg on his face.....and that would hurt.....

I think there's more chance of England winning the thing than that happening.

This is why the point about whether or not this had been referred to the OPCW was so important, and why the initial confusion over whether or not we actually had was so bizarre.

If they haven't, or worse if they are still producing it, then the sanctions they will get will be far worse than anything yet seen. It isn't something they can easily veto either.

Neil should really be made to have a parrot perch on his shoulder at all times - every time he tries to be funny about politicians and their links to repressive regimes, the bird gets to screech "Mordechai Vanunu" in his earhole.
