Root saved them. Without that hundred India would have won it yesterdayI think India would have got the runs, think they won 'on points'. We got away with one there.

He was overdue it. When he got into the eighties sky said it was his highest score in a home test for over three years.Root saved them. Without that hundred India would have won it yesterday
Tbf It's generally far easier to score hundreds on wickets without seam and swing. England encounter those wickets away from home but most batsmen will find it tougher in the bowling conditions you generally find in England. Even Kohli has a relatively average record in England - and for him it was yet another poor start to a seriesHe was overdue it. Tbh although I posted a laughing 'like' emoji an England win was hardly out of the question on the wet drying wicket. I think they would have had at least nine chances to take s wicket, they just couldn't waste them if they were to win, as they unfortunately did in the first innings.Lucky escape for India. They'd have been skittled out in a couple of hours.
Michael Vaughan, never short of a controversial opinion, reckons Sibley, Crawley, and echoing the opinion of so many other commentators - Dan Lawrence need to be axed from the test side.
I thought Jonny Bairstow looked the part with a better technique and his extensive big match experience, but gave it away in the second innings just as he was looking set. He looked to have adjusted his technique getting more across to off stump when defending which made him less vulnerable to easy dismissals..
They all need dropping, i just can't think of anyone deserving to come in their place.
Moeen's batting is nowhere near consistent or even good enough to bat that high imo. The fact that others are failing doesn't make him more worthy of a place batting so high in the order. He can't be thought of as a batsman in his own right anymore, but a tailender who may come off from time to time imo. His bowling isn't what it used to be either but possibly considered solely on the lack of viable alternatives in the spin department.I would get Ali back in as number 6 then we've always got a spinner in the side. If it's a pitch that is really spinning it means we can have 2 spinners and still have some quick options. At the top it's a real problem because non of the three are good enough but to find an entire new top 3 will be really difficult.
Why Jack Leach is hardly talked about I’m not sure, he’s never let England down, offers a different spin option and is a gutsy tail end batsman. Will never forget that match winning effort against the Aussies.Moeen's batting is nowhere near consistent or even good enough to bat that high imo. Rashid is head and shoulders above any other spinning option but won't do red ball cricket anymore.
