Cricket

Given how poor our test batting line up has been... I'd give the limited overs batters a chance. Roy struggled for sure, but did he get as many chances as sibley et al?

Will never happen I know, but in some of our recent tests I wonder how our 20 or 50 over players would have done.

You could equally say that it should be the team that can beat India, which NZ have done in three successive tests now, and Aussie couldn't win a series against them in their own backyard.
yes, I do appreciate that mate...and I do not want to come across curmudgeonly in underappreciating the Black Caps success...I am genuinely made up and very proud of them. But Aussie are to cricket what the All Blacks are in rugby...you have to go onto their turf, play their conditions, their home crowd...and beat them. The team that does that, is a quintessential champion...in my opinion.

I hear ya. I think in international cricket, it's a measure of just how difficult it is to win test series away, anywhere - i.e. in almost a century New Zealand have only won three test series away v England, and only one away v Australia. I'm not sure if we've ever won away in a series v India. And it's the same for other international teams - away test series wins against top tier teams (Australia, India, South Africa, England, New Zealand) are rarer than hen's teeth.

yes...and that kind of presents a convincing case for a visiting team to have the choice of batting or bowling (i.e. no toss)...at least in the very first test match of a series. When we last toured Aussie , (and got torn a new one), we lost the 1st test toss and fielded in 40 degree Perth heat for a looong time...we never recovered from that ordeal in my view.

Another poor effort from Lancs last night. 130 was at least 40 runs below par. Some mystifying captaincy from Vilas too - needing to take wickets, parkinson only bowled 3 overs, and when Hartley (5), Parkinson (4) and Croft (3) went for 12 runs in three overs he went make to medium pace with Lamb who promptly went for 14. Croft never bowled again.

The poor performances are beginning to outweigh the good ones - need to start winning straight away.

Still, it was good to see Arron Lilley thrash the Yorkies around.
