Cricket

Big fan of him myself.
In fact, I'm a big fan of loads of Aussies, Dean Jones was my fave bat as a kid growing up too, that's why I imported Kookaburra myself before anyone in the Liverpool comp apart from the Aussie Chee Quee brothers at Liverpool cc had it.
As a left hand bat Mark Taylor was also a hero.. The list is endless for me.
This side, I never took to at all though. Warner just isn't for me, a jarg David Boon.

I always remember Dean Jones as the Aussie we all loved to hate back in the late 80's, I think he mouthed off about Richard Hadlee at one point, needless to say the great one (Hadlee) had his number and dismissed him for a run of low scores in a few tests and ODI's back then, much to our glee. Back when I was a kid Deano played the pantomine villain very well and we all loved him for that :D.

The Aussie side in the late 90's to me is the best cricket team I've seen in my lifetime, eclipsing (just) the 1980's Windies. Hayden, Langer, the Waugh's, Ponting, Gilchrist, Warne, McGrath, Lee..... arguably all they missed was a world-class allrounder, fantastic side nonetheless. Arrogant as many world-class teams are, but they certainly had the ability to back it up.

So quick between the wickets was Jones.
The only ones I saw as quick ( at the time ) was Graeme Fowler and Neil Fairbrother when playing for Lancs.

Imagine those lids value in the IPL eh..

apparently he has done very well with his management company, but if he was around today fairbrother would be a millioniare
If his main client wasn't a tit after a few pints, I'm sure he would be doing better !

Fowler had a few issues though.

Great Lancashire side that.

Cricket Australia are trying to protect Smith and Co, they're hoping to ride this out and eventually troddle out the old "lessons will be learnt and we've been assured this will not happen again" in a bid to rehabilitate their golden boy's image. Absolutely disgusting and shows how backward some Aussies (not all) are and how they badly lack any class.

Next summer when that lot show their faces over here, which they will, I hope they're spat at in the street and hotel staff piss on their food, see how they like being slegded to the point of wanting to just sack it off and go home like they always do to us. Disgusting cheats who have no place in the game.

Personally I hope that Joe Root & co just show themselves to be the better men and beat them on the cricket field.

Pretty sure Gilchrist fits the bill there scoring tons at No7, but I know what you mean.

After the series they should refuse to drink with them, I wouldn't even shake their hands. They should never be allowed to play again.

Agree there re the post-game pint. I'd tell them to eff off; especially in light of the last few days. But I'd like to think on the pitch the Aussies' opponents wouldn't stoop to their level.

Anyways..... England need to bat 90 overs, Kiwis need seven wickets. The pitch at Eden Park is still a reasonable one to bat on, it certainly won't break up on day five and take too much spin. Where's everyone's money?

Respectfully Paul, you'd be the only bloke on the planet that reads the situation like this. Don't know how you have come to this conclusion, bias aside.
You've got a whole population, Prime Minister and former greats all condemning him/them (and most asking for sackings).
We can hate each other on the field and crack jokes with each other in fun, but believe me, nobody is looking to protect anyone here.

Have to agree with Kithnou here. I don't know CA's plans for this but we're seething down here! CA may or may not want him saved, but the Public are bloody angry I can tell you.

Even if they ignored us, CA are being attacked on another front, sponsors. We all know the corporate dollar rules in sport & the sponsors are letting them have it too!

You could probably make an argument that we've turned a blind eye to Warner et al while they were winning, but there's always been an undertone to his place in the side. He basically forced his way into the team because he could bash the ball in T20, but it's taken far too long for him to become a Test player. It has always just smelled of a 'club' & one that was harder to get out of than to get in.

I think you'll see massive changes ahead but if I'm wrong & have misread the situation, what you will see is an erosion of public support & attendance, and the game will fall away from the major players in the Aus sport market.
