England right to keep Buttler where he is. How long before we seriously consider striping root of the captaincy? He doesn't make any important scores anymore and he should be the main batsman. He's lost a massive part of him since he became captain. Can hardly be argued he's a Michael Vaughan captain either, we've only won one away match since.

Buttler averages 49 since being recalled.
I can't see who else who could be captain. It'd be funny if they gave it to Anderson, him trying to keep a lid on his temper.
England 197-7, 112 added for the last three wickets.

Think that Ali wicket in particular means this is Sri Lanka's to lose already.

Absolute nonsense

275 to 300 a par score on this wicket

The bookmakers currently have England as odds on favourites

Winning the toss is massive

210-7 at tea, valuable partnership building between Rashid and Curran

Root and Ali may be a little upset with their dismissals but there has been some good balls. Perhaps they've lost a wicket too many but they'll be delighted with 210 runs at tea.

This wicket is going to get to be very difficult indeed.

I'll report in more depth at the close

And in the opposite way to where I say don't move Buttler because he's doing well in that position, how long do we keep Curran so low because he's doing so well in that position?

How's stat?!

Sam Curran has hit 14 sixes in his seven Tests - that is more than Alastair Cook in his whole England Test career.

285 all out

Marvellous hitting from Sam Curran, he is some player

That is a par score, but now England having won the toss on a pitch that will deteriorate rapidly are in a very strong position indeed imo.

Given that Curran is doing well where he is, let's keep him there.

yeah, i think batting lower down means he has less time so it gives him more license to free his arms. If he's coming in with a genuine batsman holding up one end we'll get full reward, it's just if he's having to bat with the number 11 for most of his innings we have to be wary about leaving runs out there. If he's better than foakes i don't want them to think he's got bat higher because he's a wickie.

I have to say when I first saw Curran I thought he might just be another bowler who does okay in early summer English conditions, but the lad certainly has a bit more about him than that. He's having those match changing moments that the big all rounders tend to have
