It was just an observation.if we are playing that game jamie smith averages 41 in tests and 42 in fc cricket. foakes averages 29 in tests and 38 in fc cricket
I wonder how the dropped catches/missed stumpings compare between the players ?I think you need to be more than a pretty wicket keeper at the top level and batting under 30 won't cut it.It was just an observation.I wonder how the dropped catches/missed stumpings compare between the players ?
I'm not sure what the moniker 'pretty wicketkeeper ' means tbh. Interestingly, of Foakes' 25 test matches 19 were away. He averaged 40 in the 6 matches at home. He has a better batting average than Smith when playing away : 27.24 compared to 25.78.I think you need to be more than a pretty wicket keeper at the top level and batting under 30 won't cut it.
Interesting to see Asa Tribe open the batting, didn't get many but you would think he has asked to bat there with thoughts of an England place. Emilio Gay also got runs.
Thats incredibly selective now isn't it. 6 matches not being much of a sample base. Smith averages 54 at home fyi from 12 games and has only played 8 away. Smith may or may not turn out to be the answer, he's better than foakes though who is not the answer. If Smith's wicket keeping doesn't improve then he shouldn't keep the gloves. His keeping in Australia was nowhere near the level of Alex Carey. One of the biggest differences between the teams to be honest.Thats incredibly selective now isn't it. 6 matches not being much of a sample base. Buttler only averaged 31. Smith's test average in 2025/6 was 23.44.Thats incredibly selective now isn't it. 6 matches not being much of a sample base. And Buttler wasn't up to it in tests so got dropped, weird point to make. Are you just making stuff up now? Smith averaged 23 in a crap series in oz, against India in 2025 he averaged 60 odd so you may need to revise your Maths. If we want to judge players only on their last 5 match series Foakes averaged 18 in IndiaButtler only averaged 31. Smith's test average in 2025/6 was 23.44.
Indeed he will, as stated I'm not sure he is the answer and there appears to be legitimate competition (not Foakes). That being said he clearly has plenty of talentIf Smith's wicket keeping doesn't improve then he shouldn't keep the gloves. His keeping in Australia was nowhere near the level of Alex Carey. And he needs to score more runs to make the team as a top 6 batsman.
I think it's best to agree to disagree. Let's see how he get on against New Zealand. And Buttler wasn't up to it in tests so got dropped, weird point to make. Are you just making stuff up now? If he plays, the spot is up for grabs imoI think it's best to agree to disagree. Let's see how he get on against New Zealand.
MCcullum will be under unaccustomed pressure regarding players who don't come up to expectations this summer. Somebody might be the fall guy, Crawley must be favourite. If he plays, the spot is up for grabs imo
That position might also be a shootout with some interesting options. Emilio gay and Asa Tribe are probably the up and comers but Hameed could be the one if he gets runs.MCcullum will be under unaccustomed pressure regarding players who don't come up to expectations this summer.
