Creative Midfielder Wanted

I do watch Everton. When i've not been able to go I watch them on tv or on a stream, so don't say that.

I just don't think Arteta is strong enough to dictate a game against the likes of the teams we need to beat to progress.

Fabregas, Scholes, Pirlo, Xavi, Iniesta etc.

None of the players mentioned are big, strong or quick. They just have class, intelligence and fantastic technical ability.

Arteta held his own against the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Man utd last season and 'controlled' the game against Arsenal at Goodison.

Get better players around him and it'll be easier to dominate games against teams with far more talented players. It's not always that easy to be honest, if you've got a limited amount of players on your wavelength.

Arteta can dictate games against the majority of teams in this League at present, that's all that matters. You'll finally get to see that once he's fit.

Well I do. I'm not going to fall into the trap. Too many people expect me to be like I was, in fact want me to.

I just refuse to be negative against the club before something has happened, but everything that I have said today is based on what happened yesterday, as it's nigh on impossible to defend that.

I am still positive though.

Me too m8 (y)
Trying to be realistic at the same time though , and not look at keeping players in the starting line up just because they may be fans favourites , or have the odd good game .
Ruthless springs to mind lol

I think Arteta is a great player , and would easily be on our team sheet , but he has gone missing in some of the big games that you mention on many occasions . This might change , but another creative midfielder to compliment the squad certainly wouldn't go amiss .

I see where your coming from there mate. But I was also referring to mental strength. The confidence to beat the best players in the world.

I hope Arteta can do that job but not 100% on board. Suppose time will tell because I doubt Moyes will bring in any creative players in this window.

Outwide he did everytime. It was well known that he went missing.

In the middle not a chance, I'd advise you to get hold of one of our games against the top four and rewatch them - you'll see for yourself.

I'm starting to come around to you way of thinking here mate. Anyone know when he is going to be fit again?

I do though wonder what people would think about him if he hadn't scored against Liverpool.

Please keep in mind I said "underappreciated"... As for the goal against the now winless RS (too bad, so sad)...by that logic I'd think the world of Gosling and I don't, not by a long shot. As for AJ, that was an idiotic buy from the get-go considering the formation we played and still play. Which leads me back to why I mentioned Carsley...we still play roughly the same formation but, even worse, is with the same mentality; all without the one person who showed he was consistently capable of holding it together (which, as Davek mentioned, was not a cake job at the time).

That's what's stupid in all of this...we're a better attacking side than we were when Carsley was here but we still revert to type when we go up against a side perceived as better than us, which we are just not capable of doing any more. As soon as Arsenal scored we went into a defensive posture and let them come at us and they completely ran over our midfield...in my view, we're not capable of handling that these days with the midfield we have, including Arteta, and we need to impose ourselves more...or, if we're going to do that then we have to go out and get a quality DM. Which is what I think we're all getting at here...

He's not even started training yet.:(

Which is why, as you say, we need someone similar.

Yeah we do. From what I have seen, Baxter is that type of player but not really been pushed on by the boss other than in friendlies. He kind of reminds me of Wilshire.

At the end of the day we need someone like Billy Kenny, someone to come through the ranks in the Gerrard mould because we have the talent in the area, we just need to push it forward.

Well it wouldn't harm playing the likes of Rodwell from the start, revert Neville to Hibberts role, and perhaps look at bringing on Baxter instead of Osman.

He is older than Rooney was when he started, and by all accounts he is supposed to be better than Rooney.

I'm wondering whether Moyes is trying to protect him from the sharks.

With Neville and Arteta playing there last season we kept 17 clean sheets. With Carsley in there the season before we kept 14 clean sheets.

Since Carsley has left we have without doubt done better against the top four, our resulty have improved. We've turned losses to draws and the odd win here and there.

We've improved as a team since he left and our style of play has improved, which is a big thing if we want to compete at a higher level.

We haven't beaten a top 4 side ( in the league at least ) since we beat Liverpool 3-0 and Arsenal 1-0 in the 2006-2007 season unless I'm mistaken .

As I've said, we've turned alot of losses into draws and the odd win (Liverpool in the cup).

Our performances have been much improved against the top four.
