German reaction to today's game:

"Ozil strike not enough for Arsenal"

Kicker.de:

"Draw in a big game: Ozil strike is not enough for Arsenal"

So yeah, same as

That's just cos he's German though. The papers here always focus on the Dutch players when covering foreign matches, even Jonny still gets a regular mention when it's one of our matches.

More Everton positive coverage this week than at any time I can remember. Even when it's been good in the past, it's been in a backhanded way.

I think people are starting to take us seriously.

I'm not going to lose much sleep over it tbh. Let them write their match reports beforehand if they want, real footy fans know this team is looking like the real deal (without wanting to get carried away on what they might achieve if they carry on in this vein).

It amuses me to some extent - all the headlines intimating that we 'snatched' a late equaliser to 'hold' the Arse, as if we hadn't been in the game at all, let alone mullering them for the first 40 minutes and being behind for all of 4 minutes in the whole game!

Exactly! Some ******** in an office writing behind the papers agenda! Ignore all of that crap. What RM say's counts that's it!

It is more important than that.

I have lived down south for 20 years and have watched SKY and the media influence young kids and adults alike into supporting the sky6 (was 5 until city came along). Those of you who say you don't care are forgetting that those young fans will be putting money into the sky 6 teams coffers for the rest of their lives.

Everton cannot continue to exist on the Merseyside catchment and the fans from the 80s and 70s.

The less positive exposure we get the less fans we get. Liverpoo are crap yet still get loads of exposure and it feeds their massive fan base. While we have been arguably the 7th best team in the last decade, due to the lack of interest in the media we have not grown anywhere near as much as the rest.

Whatever happens to UTD over the next few years they will continue to get more coverage than us.

It's easy to play the "I don't care" card but in reality - we should.

exactly what I was going to respond to technojoes post. Media is important so we can get a bigger fanbase and also that we would easier attract players to us when they have heard about us in the media.

I agree the more successful you are the more favorable the media cover you but if kids wanna grow up an support world brands i.e Chelsea/City and not local or classic teams then **** them too! although I think we've always had a favorable look in form neutrals, that might transcend into youngsters.....

on yesterday's Football Weekly pod, they began the show discussing the Blues:

[Everton] come through this week with their reputation further enhanced...

There seems to be kind of a changing of the guard in the Premier League, and Everton are stepping up and Manchester United are... bit of a shambles

You make some excellent points, especially with the way the Premier League has been promoted in modern times.

I fell in love with the Blue boys in the early 80's when I was growing up in an area which has never known top-flight football (deepest, sleepiest Devon in case anyone's interested). Even then I remember the meeja hyping up Spurs supposed credentials compared to EFC but I watched and I witnessed the most sublime football played by any team I had ever seen. That 80's team was pure poetry and they scored for fun. And then they got shafted by events o/s their control and it broke my heart.

Like many on here I've stuck with the team through thick and thin and I've seen countless other teams come and go. But it still rankles with me when I read other footy forums and they talk how about well our players or our manager would do at a big club. We ARE a big club, it's just we are so much the poor unfashionable relations that it's unreal. I work with far too many young lads who have drunk the SKY4/5 (or even worse, the RS) kool-aid and bought into the BS. We need to be winning these types over by the quality of our football, the magnificence of our club and the passion of our support.

I really think with Martinez and this current crop of players we can. And I honestly believe that what we've seen this week has been the start of a lot of pundits (and real people!) starting to be charmed by our manager, our performances and our long-standing pedigree.

I may just be projecting from my own perspective, but I knew that when I fell I in love with EFC it would be forever. So I may be immune to / amused by media bias but I'd still like to see it tail off in the face of actual footballing talent rather than hype, money, controversial players, overseas fan bases etc etc...

Just my considered and slightly less-flippant two'pennethworth than from earlier....

Great post. It has taken the thick end of thirty years but hopefully we've come to the end of our post-Heysel malaise. You're spot on, the general perception of Everton is of the plucky underdog. I am absolutely thrilled the manager is not just setting about changing the style of our football, he's changing the way people view the club. I don't want to get giddy but I wonder if we are at the beginning of something really amazing...
