Coventry City

I was dragged up in Rugby about 12 miles from Coventry , so have mates who are Cov fans , so well made up for them.

I remember going there in the late 90's when they tonked us 3-0 i believe and we made Darren Huckerby look like George Best.

A bit before my time mate but my Uncle (RIP) who started taking me to games in the 80s never shied away from his hatred for them and Jimmy Hill.

Not the first time they've done it mind back in 1997 when we were relegated 13,000 Sunderland fans managed to get to Selhurst Park in time for kick off yet a few thousand Coventry couldn't get to Spurs in time on the last day another delayed kick off  Pretty sure they just passed the ball about to play for a 0-0 v Morcambe a few weeks ago too a result that seen Barnet relegated

Only a few will understand what you are on about mate, but I do. Being a follower of Bristol City in the late 70s. You dont know the half of it, believe you me, but was an open secret down here not long after the two matches finished.

Just one snippet though. The Bristol manager at the time was non other than Alan Dicks, a mate of Hills, who had worked at Coventry with him, and was recommended to Bristol City as a manager about 6 years earlier........

Lob in the coaches from Ashton Gate being held, not "delayed cos of traffic", but stopped from leaving, and the creme de la creme. TWO players from Bristol who played for them back then have told me that "something was happening behind the scenes".

They didnt realise at the time, but it dawned on even this then 11 year old that having your result being flashed up on the scoreboard 5 minutes before the end of their match was a bit odd.

What springs to mind when I think of Coventry is that Micky Quinn played for them and I hate him. It kind of taints the rest of the good stuff as apart from that I always thought they were alright.

They were selling cups of hot water out of a big urn for £1 one cold afternoon at Highfield Road - had long run out of tea, coffee, Twix & any semblance of ale. Weird thing was...I saw people buying it.

.....and if you think Coventry City wanted us to stay up that final home game of the season, either you were too drunk to remember what really happened or have been sucked in by the nostalgic view of them singing Everton at the end of the game in a final act of self preservation! Don’t own their ground, sold off their training ground, owned by Venture Capitalists who don’t give a stuff about their fans.....a football club that exists in name only. Will go belly up in the next five years unless there is a dramatic change in fortune.

After us and the arse, coventry had the longest unbroken spell in the top division.

In this respect they're a bigger club than the rs.

(I know the media like to ignore history at the moment, so many people might not know this)
Erm
Them over the park 62 - next season
Coventry 67 - 2001
